Gouache artwork for a wallpaper reconstruction.

Reconstruction and redesign of a 2-colour wallpaper from the 1910 eclectic Villa Rouzée located in Veurne, Belgium. Swipe to see the process. Given that parts of the repeat were missing I dived into the archives to see how similar patterns were constructed at the time, thus resulting in a historically accurate new design.
Although the original was a machine-printed paper, for the restoration it was executed using block print for a painted-like finish. The B/W design was used by Atelier VV to create the block that printed the wallpaper.

Last year, in all silence, I did the wallpaper for art and music venue Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER as part of its restoration of the historic ‘Vooruit’ building. I reconstructed the pattern from a black and white picture and updated the colors so they would work in a 21st century setting. Swipe to see the process involved. Thanks to Jantien Vermeiren Jantien Vermeiren for the picture of the ballroom showing where the paper is.

It’s so surprising to see your own work in a magazine! When browsing a March ‘26 edition of Knack Weekend I stumbled upon the panoramic wallpaper I made for Musea Brugge Thank you Kristin Stoffels for promoting this! And there’s plenty more to see in my studio. Like the ballroom wallpaper I reconstructed VierNulVier Ghent. But that one I’ll show you in another post.
