Just arrived: our capsule collection for the museum 🌸. From outdoor water bottles for kids to your new favorite gardening apron.
For this collection, Marylène did not have to look far.
‘Living heritage’ is the name for the historic animal breeds that roam the landscapes of the museum. These animals are an essential part of the region’s cultural history, reflecting centuries of farming traditions and rural life in Flanders. By caring for native and endangered breeds, Bokrijk helps preserve not only the animals themselves, but also the knowledge, practices, and relationship between humans, nature, and agriculture that shaped everyday life for generations. Marylène created illustrations based on some of the animal breeds that are kept at the ‘Duifhuis’ farm.
Other than the Living Heritage them, she created a series of drawings and illustrations, fruit trees for the Haspengouw museum section, a little dog for the off-leash meadow, flowers for the Arboretum,… which eventually became the inspiration for the prints and embroideries in this collection. In addition, she painted one of Bokrijk’s most iconic symbols: the magnolia.
The Dachshund has been a symbol for the Marylène Madou brand since the very start in 2017, so connecting it to the dog park in Bokrijk was an evident choice. Everything was drawn by hand, a craft-based approach that she considered essential for a collection created for Bokrijk.
