(FR en dessous) Many of you have asked me to share photos of the ceramics fired in my wood-fired kiln. It is not all that common in Europe to fire glazes made from plant ash in this type of kiln, in a reducing atmosphere at 1280°C.
These bowls were thrown and hand-built from Treigny clay (FR), and the ash glaze was applied over two different tenmoku glazes (which contain a high proportion of iron oxide). On the bowls in the first two photos, I used ash from my wood-burning stove (long live reuse! :-). On the third bowl, I used an ash glaze made from cork oak ash from Extremadura, where my parents live. On the fourth bowl, I used the ash from a cedar tree that one of my neighbours had to cut down. Which one is your favourite? ;-)
