Wij doen mee aan Herbestemmingsdag 2025! 📢
Op 18 mei 2025 zetten wij ons kantoor in de kijker tijdens Herbestemmingsdag!

“A2D Architecten heeft een voormalig douanegebouw uit 1906 omgevormd tot een duurzame en toekomstbestendige woon- en werkplek. Bij de renovatie is vooral gebruikgemaakt van bio-based materialen en hergebruik van sloopmateriaal. Dankzij grondboringen, warmtepompen en zonnepanelen is het gebouw volledig zelfvoorzienend op het gebied van verwarming, koeling en ventilatie. Dit maakt het een voorbeeld van duurzaam bouwen.

Het kantoor van A2D Architecten heeft zijn werkruimte gevestigd in de voormalige opslagruimtes en kelder, waar het industriële karakter van het gebouw behouden blijft.
Kom ontdekken hoe een verwaarloosd historisch pand nieuw leven krijgt door een respectvolle, duurzame renovatie. Ervaar hoe innovatie en hergebruik hand in hand gaan om een unieke woon- en werkomgeving te creëren.”

📝 Tijdens het weekend van Herbestemmingsdag geven wij verschillende rondleidingen. De eerste zal om 11:00 doorgaan en de tweede om 14:00, dit zowel op zaterdag 17 mei als op zondag 18 mei.

🚧 Under Construction: The Solheide project is taking shape in Overijse, featuring 16 low-energy ‘greenhouse-houses’ inspired by the site’s history through their design and spatial layout. Each home is connected to a multi-functional glass area, providing a high-quality private outdoor space.

A new year, a new chapter!

As we are slowly settling into our new office in Brussels, we are also excited to share som key organizational updates.

We're thrilled to announce that three of our long-standing collaborators - Cindy, Eva and Kris -, who have been integral to A2D for many years, have joined as new partners. Their expertise, creativity, and leadership will undoubtedly propel us forward into this next phase.

At the same time, we wish to express our heartfelt gratitutde to our founding partner Karel, who, after decades of dedication and vision, has decided to take a well-deserved step back. Although retiring from his daily role, Karel will remain a valuable part of our team as a consultant, continuing to inspire us with his insight and experience.

With these changes, A2D is ready to embrace the future with renewed energy and optimism!

Discover the newly renovated Brasserie Beaulieu at Golf du Château de la Bawette!

By reconfiguring the space, we've designed various seating areas to suit every occasion - from casual drinks to fine dining. Great care was taken to enhance acoustics for a relaxing vibe. And for businesses, there's a meeting room available for hire, with the option to enjoy a tasty lunch afterward!

We are proud to announce the completion of the first building in the extensive renovation of the Langblokken complex in Antwerp. This project, encompassing four residential buildings with 672 social housing units, is a significant step in preserving the architectural heritage of the Luchtbal neighbourhood. Originally designed by renowned architect Hugo Van Kuyck, the buildings have been carefully restored, respecting the original design while integrating modern standards of comfort and sustainability.

Our approach emphasizes the importance of maintaining the existing structural integrity and architectural values. By preserving the beam and column structure and reintroducing a brick exterior that mirrors the initial texture and pattern, we ensure that the buildings regain their historical appearance. Simultaneously, we have made substantial improvements to the living conditions and energy performance, aligning the buildings with contemporary standards. The renovation also included reopening and revitalizing the ground-floor entrances, basement levels, and circulation cores, ensuring they blend seamlessly with the existing architecture.

Our proposal for the architectural competition to design a new social housing development on the Wilgenhofpark site in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw.
The design is based on a thoughtful layout that draws in the greenery of the nearby park between the new and existing houses. A sensitivity to the existing buildings along with the use of sustainable building materials and a dynamic mix of typologies defined our approach, creating and end result that is both typologically complex and architecturally coherent.

In collaboration with Danish architecture office EFFEKT Architects and D+A, we are pleased to share that we’ve been selected to participate in the competition for the design of 400 new homes on the southwestern edge of Leuven!

The Sint-Jansbergsesteenweg site is the last greenfield development in Leuven and will act as a pilot project within the goal of the city to be climate neutral by the year 2030. This ambitious project calls for a mix of homes, community services and public spaces that make a positive contribution to their environment in terms of diversity, sustainability and spatial character.

Selected from a pool of 19 applications, our team is one of 5 invited to continue to the next phase of the tender based on our shared ‘conviction to generate a positive impact on a social, economic and ecological level’, says the jury report. We look forward to bringing a new vision to life later in the summer!

The geothermal installation in our future office has been installed! 🌿

With this advanced geothermal technology, we will be fully self-sufficient for ventilation, heating, and cooling. This not only means a significant reduction in our ecological footprint but also an improvement in the comfort and energy efficiency of our work environment. 💼

The project has been granted the Renolab Award 🏆 by Renolution (April 2023) in response to a project call for highly circular renovations of Brussels architectural heritage.

We look forward to experience the benefits of this sustainable solution!
