Wand #40 – Calidum Tactus
Warm, tactile, true. A wand that longs to leave a mark on the face of this world, much like the pyrograph longed to leave its mark on the surface of this wand.
Lathe-turned, pyrographed beech wood wand. 29 cm, finished with stain and natural wood oil.

These wands, among my other artificery, are carved in my little workshop in Bulgaria whenever inspiration strikes. Into them I put the little bits of magic I find in the world - the feeling of petting a cat in the street, the rustle of leaves in the wind, the orange reflections of the sunset in the city's windows, and after that - the lights inside. The handshakes of roots under the forest floor, the settling of dust in old places, the slicing of clouds by defiant airplane wings, the steam exhaled by passing strangers in crisp winter air, the sputter of a coffee pot, calling to be taken off the stove. I also put in fair amount of thought, elbow grease, bandaids, and compromise. The process of creating a wand is a dialogue between what I want, and what the wood and tools want. No two of my wands will ever be the same, because they are born of everchanging conversation. If you get one of my works, I hope you spare a thought about the countless little acts of cause and effect that led to me making exactly it, and to you to holding it. I hope you or your loved one find magic in it. And I hope you find magic in everything else too, because it is all, indeed, so very magical.
Love, Alex.
