Hello friends,
We’re Rob & Maureen of Milsean Meadows, and as we wrap up another Butter Crunch season, we wanted to share a little of our story for anyone discovering us for the first time.

We’ve been making Milsean Chocolate especially our Demerara Butter Crunch since 1992. What started as a small family project with our kids has grown into a tradition we now share with our grandchildren, and with families across Canada.

Many of you know us from our days running the Milsean Shoppe in Aldergrove, our specialty coffee & gift shop that we treasured for many years. Closing the Shoppe when we retired was bittersweet, but it allowed us to slow down, build a new space on our property, and continue making our chocolate at a gentler pace.

A question we’re often asked is why you can’t get our Butter Crunch year-round. The simple answer is: we’re semi-retired. In 2019 we decided to reduce our workload, so now we make our candy seasonally, by hand, just the two of us. The rest of the year you’ll find us gardening on our farm, visiting classic car shows, travelling, or hosting movie crews here on the property.

Our chocolate season begins in the fall, and most customers like to stock up early as batches often sell out. You can order online at milsean.com, or visit our annual Open House on the last Saturday of November and the first Saturday of December.

Every so often we may make a small batch in the off-season, but during the warmer months we pause online orders because we no longer ship during the heat.

If you ever need Butter Crunch for a special event outside the season, feel free to call the number on our website. We can’t always guarantee availability, but if we can help, we always try.

Some of you have asked why you can’t always get product like you used to…

Today, Rob & Maureen are semi-retired. In 2019 they wanted to reduce their workload so they now only work seasonally making their award-winning candy themselves. They like to spend the rest of the year gardening on their small farm, going to car shows, traveling, and hosting movie locations.

What about the rest of the year?

Occasionally Rob and Maureen will run a batches in the off season. During the hot months the website is put on pause as they no longer ship during the heat.

What if I have a special event during the off season?

Just call the number on the website and we’ll see if we can help with a special order.

Ever wonder what goes into making award-winning chocolate? Let us take you behind the scenes 🍫

Every batch of Demerara Butter Crunch starts early in the morning. We carefully cook the demerara sugar and butter to just the right temperature, too hot and it burns, too cool and it won't set properly.

Then comes the nuts, the cooling, and finally the Belgian chocolate coating. All by hand. All in small batches. All right here at Milsean Meadows.

It's the same process we've used for 30+ years. Some things shouldn't be rushed. ✨

Milsean bees collect pollen from over 40 different medicinal plants across our Aldergrove farm: lavender, skullcap, oregano, thyme, calendula, borage, feverfew, roses, St. John's wort, along with apple, plum, and pear trees and a multitude of berries - elderberries, hawthorn, rowan, blackberries, honey berries, raspberries, black currants, and strawberries.

This isn't your typical honey. It's a taste of our Fraser Valley farm's biodiversity, crafted by nature and tended by our family. Rich, complex, and deeply nourishing - just like everything we create here.
