Bruce is a world-renowned Northwest Coast artist, and for over 50 years he has been contributing to his nation’s community with various pieces and permanent installations for all to view, enjoy, and take pride in.

The artwork: lower portion design is representing a bentwood box with; inside it are four children (four being our sacred number), or in kwak’wala: ga̱nga̱nana̱m, our długwe’, as Bruce puts it “Our children, our sacred treasures”. The treasure box design that the four children sit is ‘Namxxiyalegiyu, from the ‘Na̱mg̱is story Halibut-like Sea Monster that protected our ancestor and first ‘Na̱mg̱is man, Namukustolis, saving him during the great flood.
This sign is more than art—it’s a symbol of protection, community, and pride. Thank you to everyone who made this moment possible
