The past couple of weeks we have welcomed an increase in the number of tourists dropping into Mrs Pugsley’s Emporium in Amherst, Nova Scotia. Folks are intrigued to visit this unique quilt shop housed in such a special Gothic Revival style building. Built 1884-1886, it was designed by Dominion Architect Thomas Fuller who also designed the Ottawa Parliament Buildings, the New York State capital building, and the San Francisco City Hall. It was built by Rhodes, Curry & Co of Amherst from sandstone quarried in Wallace, and housed the Intercolonial Railway solicitor, Customs, Internal Revenue and Weight and Measures, as well as the Post Office. An important building indeed! As a perfect souvenir of your visit to our beautiful town, Mrs Pugsley’s is pleased to offer locally designed quilting kits exclusive to our shop to make your very own Clock Tower building. The pattern was designed by Karen Neary of . The kits are available in limited quantities, $21.95 ea. Mrs Pugsley’s Emporium is open Thursday afternoons from 130-4 pm in the Clock Tower Building, 50 Victoria St E, Amherst, N.S. Looking forward to your visit!
