My customer made this sweet cross-stitch commemorating the birth of her granddaughter.

A honey-tone wood moulding from Roma Moulding was the perfect choice for this bee and flower themed birth announcement. A sage green conservation mat from Crescent Brands 🌙 was selected, along with a hidden spacer mat behind it to give more space between the needlework and the glass. Conservation clear glass from Tru Vue® was chosen for its 99% UV protection.

My customer emailed later to let me know that her daughter loved the gift, and felt we chose the perfect frame and mat!

Makeover Monday… My customers brought in this lovely painting by Nova Scotia artist, John James Cook (1918-1984). They wanted to update the design from its current heavy gold frame with a linen liner.

A walnut-tone scooped wood moulding from Larson-Juhl was paired with soft cream and sage green conservation mats from Crescent Brands 🌙. Museum glass from Tru Vue® was chosen for its 99% UV protection and amazing clarity.

This was the fifth jersey that I’ve framed for this customer in the last year and a half. While the others were hockey jerseys, this latest was an autographed Jerry Rice NFL football jersey. Also included was a signed photo, which was displayed floating above the bottom portion of the jersey.

Keeping the same design as the other shadow boxes, a classic black shadow box moulding from Larson-Juhl was paired with black conservation mats from Peterboro Matboards. Conservation clear glass from Tru Vue® was chosen for its 99% UV protection.

My customers recently had their main bathroom completely renovated (fabulous work by Monk Renovations), and they had me custom frame a 20”x24” mirror to hang over their new vanity. They also had me frame four original pen and ink watercolours by Nova Scotia artist, Tracy Pitman (Tapitman Studio), and re-frame two small prints by Virginia artist, Sally Biondi, which they purchased in Virginia over 35 years ago.

The mirror was framed in a beautiful old-world style hand-finished moulding, with a silver lip from Larson-Juhl, which complemented the dark espresso-tone of the vanity and the chrome fixtures.

The six pieces of seashore-themed artwork were framed in gorgeous olive wood veneer mouldings from Roma Moulding. A wider scooped profile was used for the larger watercolour, while a narrow flat profile was used for the remaining artwork. The same sage green mat was chosen for all the artwork, and paired with two different colour mats for the narrow reveals, all from Crescent Brands 🌙. Conservation clear glass from Tru Vue® was chosen for its 99% UV protection.

My customers were thrilled with their new custom mirror, framed artwork, and their new main bathroom!

I had the pleasure of framing this stunning hooked rug created by fibre artist, Jean Ottosen. Her design depicted the family farm, which brought back many fond childhood memories. She incorporated several amazing 3-D elements, such as daffodils, pansies, berries, and leaves.

A deep shadow box was needed to make sure there was plenty of space between the 3-D elements of the rug and the inside of the glass. This was achieved by using a dark brown wood-grain moulding from Roma Moulding for the face frame, and attaching a deep walnut-tone moulding from Larson-Juhl for the extension box. A sage green mat was used as the background, while a darker green was used to line the sidewall spacers of the shadow box, both mats were from Crescent Brands 🌙. Jean did a fabulous job lacing her rug, and floating it by sewing it to the background.

Museum glass from Tru Vue® was the perfect choice as it provided 99% UV protection and amazing clarity so the fine details of this rug can truly be enjoyed.

And now for something completely different... We’re going to be grandparents again!!! This past weekend I hosted a baby shower for my daughter and her husband who are expecting their first baby later this year. My granddaughter is visiting from Newfoundland, and was a HUGE help in making decorations for the shower! My twin sister also helped with the decorating, and both of them did such a fantastic job!

As a shower activity, the guests were invited to decorate white cotton onesies which I had purchased in three different sizes. Using fabric markers, they tapped into their creativity, and the result was spectacular! Though not shown, my twin and I painted one of the large onesies with the twin characters from Dr. Suess.

I had previously updated my customer’s and her husband’s degree and certificate frames. When their daughter graduated from Saint Francis Xavier University, I had the pleasure of framing her degree as well.

A sophisticated look was achieved by using a classic black moulding with a mottled gold lip from Larson-Juhl, and pairing it with a double mat combination cut with reverse bevels (mats from Crescent Brands 🌙 and Peterboro Matboards). Conservation clear glass from Tru Vue® was chosen for its 99% UV protection.

My customers brought in this beautiful acrylic painting on canvas, titled “Breaking”, by Nova Scotia artist Cathy Cusack. With temperatures hovering in the low 30’s Celsius, and feeling like 40 Celsius with the humidity, this painting invites you to dip your toes in the ocean to cool off.

This off-white wood grain moulding from Roma Moulding is reminiscent of driftwood, and is the perfect selection to frame the seashore artwork.
