PROJECT PICK OF THE WEEK

SUNDAY STROLL SOCKS
Socktober is still in full swing and this elegant vintage-inspired pair designed by Sari Nordlund would make a lovely holiday gift while learning a few new knitting techniques.

Knit from the cuff down with a suggested tubular cast on to increase elasticity, there are columns of cables and seed stitch to admire, and extra strength built into the heel flap. The rounded French heel creates comfort in the fit and Sari also includes instructions to increase sizing in the gusset.

Where did it all begin?
Socktober was created in 2011, and evolved into the knitting world as a crossover from a charitable initiative started by Brad Montague.

While the official campaign aimed to collect store bought socks for homeless shelters, the online knitting community enthusiastically "adopted" and transformed the month of October into a worldwide celebration of handknit socks.

Knitalongs, stash-busting, mastering heels and toes, and combining the craft with charity by knitting pairs to donate locally became an annual event.
