A new show and new mediums to check out at the Shore Line Gallery, on now at the South Shore Regional Hospital.
Along with the watercolours and acrylics, there are three works that utilize glass to create an image.
Janet Thompson weaves glass strips the same way a weaver uses fibre to make cloth, with vertical warp strips interwoven with horizontal or weft strips. The glass ribbons are wide, imagine pappardelle, and colourful. Some are translucent, others solid, and some have other colours running through them. These works are sculptural.
The ribbons curve and bulge as they weave in and out, light reflecting on their glossy surfaces.
Thompson has three pieces in the show: “Tides of Home”, “Waves by the Tide”, and “Healing Harbour Knits”, a witty reference to a couple of knitting needles included in it.
D. C, Maclean uses pencil and crayon on paper to create images that feel softly atmospheric yet precise. The air is clear in “Peggy’s Cove - Fall”, and sharp in “Burnt Cove Head, October”. The colour of the beach in “Burnt Cove Head” is a warm orange layered with the pale blue of a retreating tide.
Two figures head along the beach into the distance.
In “Upper LaHave, Sunset”, the water is a molten stream of orange, reflecting the last of the sunset above. Evening clouds are pushing into the sky and the riverbank is dark already.
Both these artists are part of the latest exhibition at Shore Line Gallery. Take some time to visit the show and enjoy the creativity on display there.
