Again, many thanks to everyone who participated in our 2026 Annual Open House BBQ. Around 450 people came to enjoy the festivities.

Burns Lake Community Forest’s 2026 Annual Open House/BBQ was a raging success, according to community feedback!
There was good food, cute goats, and incredibly meaningful community connection.

Burns Lake Community Forest was thrilled to be able to present a cheque for a $200,000.00 donation to the Lakes District Senior Citizens Housing Society, matching Anna Bergen’s donation.

BLCF would like to thank our caterers, Rose and Edith, our photographer, Shelby Payne our face painter, TLC Face and Body Painting, Inflatables for providing snow cones and the bouncy castle, Black Sheep Brushing Ops for bringing some adorable goats to our event, and our donation recipients for demonstrating the impact donations from Burns Lake Community Forest Ltd. has on our community.

As of Sunday, June 28th, 2026, tree-planting season in the Burns Lake Community forest is officially over.

The tree-planters of Hybrid 17 Contracting Ltd. have done a beautiful job preparing healthy, resilient forests. The work they’ve done will last for decades as the saplings planted this season grow into mature trees.

Recently, Burns Lake Community Forest partnered with Black Sheep Brushing Ops to prepare a parcel of land to be planted with trees.

Black Sheep Brushing Ops is a grazing outfit from Vanderhoof, BC, who use sheep and goats to clear brush from the land. This practice cuts down on pollution and returns the nutrients to the land in the form of fertilizer.

The Black Sheep team brought 350 goats and sheep onto BLCF land, as well as 3 guardian dogs!

The critters left the land ready to be planted over the coming days.
