I can finally share images of this Georgian Bay landscape I just finished for my brother and sister-in-law. It has been on and off the frame for a year and a half due to a busy 2024 and several moments of self doubt and frustration. In the end … everything I hoped it would be. Presented today using the traditional Horton Easter hunt.

As I warmed up into experimenting with techniques I stayed true with this first piece to my style in rug hooking. The warm up was hooking entirely with Icelandic yarn. I needle felted sheep fleece for the sprouted seed heads and then used the mechanical felt loom in the textile lab to needle felt the backing. The mountain avens was voted Iceland’s national flower in 2004. The wooly clusters that form around the head after flowering have the Icelandic nickname of harbruda or hairy doll. This plant is also known as thief root based on the old belief that the root of the avens could attract silver.
