Progress at our Scarboro project!

From sketches to near completion, the ideas we’ve had since the beginning have not veered far off from our original design.

The few and subtle changes we’ve made have been very purposeful and here’s why!

💛

The original sketch for new cabinetry, intended to be 1/2 open shelves for display and 1/2 closed storage.

A quick study and rendering of the island and range wall ➡️

The island lights arrive and upon inspection we wonder if they’re too large. Only one way to find out! Before construction even begins we take them to site to determine whether we should make a change.

The function of this area has shifted to a beverage area. A coffee machine will sit next to the sink and our client decided fridges would be an asset in this area. We opted for fridge drawers to maintain the drawer aesthetic from our original design intent.

We also moved away from the arc detail on the top drawers. While it was an interesting addition, not every drawer was the same width, causing each arc to be different and subsequently lack cohesion.

We opted for waterfall edges on either side of the beverage centre for the following reasons:

* Create a cleaner site line through the glass doors
* Eliminate several breaks in materials
* Provided an “as flush as possible” outcome from upper cabinets to counter as all other counters are flush. If we don’t have a waterfall an overhang would have been required and no other counters have overhangs.

We reduced the accentuation of the curves either side of the range to a softer line. It still has big impact!

We opted to change the hoodfan to wood rather than stone. We decided this would add warmth, connect beautifully to the island and allow the stone to take centre stage without it dominating that wall.

A entryway before and after with an adorable greeter!

Our Lake Placid renovation had updates throughout but as I’ve gone through images I’ve realized how many aspects of the home were refinished, refreshed and reused. Swipe to learn more about everything we did in the entrance of this home. 💛

The before felt dated and cluttered, ready for an refresh! The home has great bones so we worked with many existing materials, even a few decor pieces that still felt timeless!

Two large expense items were kept and updated with refinishing and a fresh coat of paint, resulting in a more current aesthetic and speaks much better to the overall design intent. Painting the walls and trims throughout and of course replacing the light fixture made all the difference.

Progress!

Thankful for Focused Renovations for being a near trapeze artist in determining the best height for the new chandelier!

I should have added sleepless nights! This was a massive undertaking with many obstacles and crazy pivots. We wanted to share more of the challenges we faced when designing this custom light fixture. And when I say custom, I mean right down to the hardware. Working with Concord Custom Lighting was a dedicated collaboration and resulted in the creation of the fixture we fully imagined for this space, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. 💛

Sometimes the best thing we can do is slow down.

There are moments in every project when taking the time to ask more questions or revisit a decision makes all the difference.

We believe beautiful homes aren’t created by rushing to the finish line. They’re shaped through thoughtful decisions, careful consideration, and a willingness to pause when getting it right matters more than staying on schedule.

It’s the kind of process that creates homes our clients love, not just on reveal day, but for years to come.

Here’s a little backstory into the renovation of our Lake Placid ensuite. After months of preparation, drawings (from sketches to CAD), specifications and many meetings, this room was transformed one decision at a time and the result is an elevated and sophisticated space with a touch of whimsy.

We began with a tired and dated ensuite, but the benefit of an already functional layout. It was ready for a refresh!

The plumbing fixtures remained in their existing locations with a few minor adjustments. Placing the tub filler was the biggest challenge with many considerations required:

• size of tub and centring it on the window
• depth required for the drapery to hang behind the tub (which required moving the tub further away from the window)
• spout reach and where it would hit the side of the tub
• where the drain and rough in would be placed as to work within the existing floor joists

We combined a porcelain tile with two natural stone tiles: a limestone pencil trim to finish off the top edge of the wall tile (we try to avoid schluter trims as often as possible!), and a limestone herringbone floor tile. The three tiles worked so well together, so much so, the natural stone levelled up the porcelain that it also looked natural!

After the tile was installed we made a call to relocate an outlet in the backsplash that looked less than ideal. It required some unravelling and redoing but now was the time to do it with the least consequence or compromise.

Things are taking shape!

Some of the jewels of the room are being installed and the personally of the space is starting to come to life. We have roughly five brass finishes between the lights, hardware, plumbing, and bathroom accessories, all complimenting each other and playing well together!

We’re on the homestretch and the vision is coming together. The focus for the room was less about a calm, spa like feel, rather one with personality and connectedness to our clients lifestyle and things she loves. It was a collaborative approach and one that speaks wholeheartedly to the feeling they hoped for.

At the last minute we added a grasscloth wallpaper to the area above the wall tile. The

From concept to completion! While this makes the process look effortless 😅… the behind the scenes to get here was nothing short of incredible hard work, expertise, professionalism, collaboration, planning, many sleepless nights and extremely patient and trusting clients. It was a journey and in the end everyone brought their A game to see this incredible installation through to the finish line. Yay team! Couldn’t have done it without Concord Custom Lighting Sartori Custom Homes S2S Electric LTD. Paola Casasbuenas S.
