Longtime Calgary w**e shop, Richmond Hill Wines, renewed.

At Richmond Hill Wines, we saw an opportunity to do more than simply refresh the retail space. By transforming an underutilized storage area into a tasting room, we created a new opportunity for events, education, and customer engagement.

A thoughtful combination of natural stone, warm wood, and polished concrete brings together the character of an Old World w**ery with a modern, sophisticated feel.

Great design doesn’t always require a large budget. It’s about knowing where to invest to create the greatest impact, both in the customer experience and the long-term success of the business.

Every entrepreneur starts with an idea. The hard part is turning it into a physical space that supports the business you are trying to build.

For a medical or wellness practitioner, that space has a job to do before the patient ever meets them: ease anxiety and start building trust. Nova Clinics in Lethbridge is a great example, a healthcare environment that feels welcoming, intentional, and human while meeting every technical requirement of a medical space. What should a space say to someone walking in for the first time?

Some working relationships are chosen deliberately. Others grow naturally through experience.

We have worked with Space Ceiling and founder Aivaras Mulskis across two very different projects, and the level of communication, collaboration, and ex*****on has been consistent each time.

For this installation at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Calgary, the ceiling was not simply a background element. It became the central architectural feature of the reception space, and getting it right required close coordination between design, lighting, and ex*****on.

Nova Clinics in the Fairmont Medical Building in Lethbridge, Alberta. A wellness clinic, pharmacy, and medical clinic brought together across 7,630 square feet as one calm, cohesive environment.

Every design decision in this space was made with how people feel in mind, from the curves at reception that lower perceived stress, to the ceiling heights that shift as you move from public to clinical zones, to the staff break room that gives the team somewhere genuinely comfortable to reset between patients.

Our Calgary office design for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is nominated for a MASI Design Award, and People’s Choice voting is open until September 14th.

This one was a challenge we loved: a 24,959 sq. ft. commercial fit-out on a compressed timeline, designed to express organizational values through proportion, light, and material rather than opulence. The backlit dome by Space Ceiling at reception, moss wall, warm wood tones, and sculptural details came together into something that feels genuinely serene.

Calgary has been leading North America in adaptive reuse for years, and having worked on a number of these projects here, I find them some of the most interesting and challenging briefs we take on. The buildings that convert best are the ones with genuine character worth keeping, and the design thinking required is genuinely different from starting from scratch.

We recently wrote about the Domino Sugar Refinery in Brooklyn as one of the most compelling examples of this done right. Full article linked in bio.

One of the highlights of a recent trip to New York was seeing the Domino Sugar Refinery in Brooklyn up close. Once part of the largest sugar refinery in the world, it has been transformed into a modern office building while keeping the soul of the original structure intact, a new glass building constructed within the historic brick shell rather than replacing it.

As Calgary and other cities continue to look at underused office buildings as opportunities rather than problems, there is a lot to learn from projects like this. Sometimes the most interesting buildings are not the ones we build from scratch, but the ones we find a new purpose for.

New York has a way of reminding you what great design feels like when you are surrounded by it. The entrances, the restaurants, the buildings that have been given entirely new lives without losing what made them special in the first place. Came home with a full camera roll and a lot to think about.
