During my visit to the London Design Festival, three predominant themes emerged; the celebration of heritage and craft, a drive to make circularity an integral part of design, and innovation as the thread that ties them together.
Heritage + Craft
The festival reinterpreted traditional techniques for the modern world. The “Mother Goddess of the Three Realms” project bridged Vietnamese and British craft traditions through h**p and silk. “Gain Pile” showcased furniture made from reclaimed wood, there were natural imperfections and traditional joinery were celebrated.
Circularity
The urgency of shifting away from a “take-make-waste” model was everywhere. The exhibitions showcased eco-friendly materials with orange peels and recycled textiles; the “Circular Design Series” was a reminder that sustainability isn’t an isn’t an after thought, it’s becoming the foundation.
Innovation
Innovation tied everything together, launching groundbreaking ideas and technologies. The “Vert” installation demonstrated how biodegradable netting could reintroduce biodiversity into urban settings. Interior design is all about finding creative solutions that balance beauty, sustainability, and function - the industry is constantly keeping us on our toes to think innovatively!
At Form Interiors, these themes resonate with how we design homes, prioritizing collaboration with artisans and emphasizing details that feel timeless. We create homes with longevity in mind, finding creative solutions that balance beauty, sustainability, and function.
These highlights aren’t just inspiration; they remind us why we design: to create spaces that connect heritage, honour sustainability, and innovate for the way families live today.
