Fire Rated Windows Installed for Legal Basement Suite in Calgary 🏠🔥

Just completed another project that more Calgary homeowners need to know about.

A Calgary homeowner was developing a legal basement suite and during the permit process, the City of Calgary flagged a requirement most people don't expect: fire rated windows.

Three fire rated windows needed - supplied and installed - before the suite could pass inspection and be legally rented out.

Why Legal Basement Suites Require Fire Rated Windows

The City of Calgary takes fire safety in secondary suites seriously - and for good reason.

When you're creating a living space below grade with tenants, the building code requires specific fire separation between the suite and the rest of the home. Part of that means windows that can withstand fire long enough to allow safe evacuation.

This one was a big one.

A Calgary homeowner called us about foggy windows throughout their home. When we showed up for the assessment, the scope became clear - over 30 glass panels with failed seals, including multiple skylights that had lost their clarity completely.

22 Foggy Glass Panels Replaced in Springbank, Calgary - What a Difference

Wrapped up another residential glass replacement job, and we couldn't be more proud of the result.

A homeowner in Springbank Hill reached out with a problem we see constantly in established Calgary neighbourhoods: foggy windows. Everywhere.

Twenty-two glass panels throughout their home - all with failed seals, all with that permanent fog between the panes that no amount of cleaning ever fixes.

The good news for this Springbank Hill homeowner? The frames were perfectly fine. Which meant we only needed to replace the glass units - not the entire windows.
