✨ How to Slow Down + Savor the Halloween Season ✨
(Advice from a recovering yes-girl and on the go designer)

When life feels like it’s rushing from a beautiful fall and busy October, straight into Christmas planning…
this is your reminder to pause right here, in the soft in-between.

Today, I’m sharing 5 ways to slow down and let yourself feel the season again 🍂

▫️Savor the sensory magic
Let your surroundings lead you; the scent of dried leaves, candlelight flickering against pumpkins, the cool evening air. As a creative person, your senses are your compass.
Notice what inspires you right now, not what’s next.

▫️Create one grounding ritual
Maybe it’s an evening candle while you design, a quiet walk collecting fallen branches, or a warm drink before you check your messages. Rituals remind you that creativity doesn’t bloom in a rush, it unfolds in rhythm.

▫️Style with intention, not perfection
You don’t need a full Halloween setup (I think I do too, but believe me, we can do less - but better!) Make a moody floral arrangement made from dried autumnal things from your yard or collected on a hike, a bowl of apples, a single branch. Let your space feel alive, not staged. Let it breathe with the season.

▫️Hold space for now, dream of later
Set aside a little “future window” each day if needed, for your Christmas ideas and planning — then, when that window closes, come back to the present. Light something, breathe deeply, and let October have her moment.

▫️Reclaim the play
Let yourself create for the joy of it again. A whimsical tablescape, a pumpkin floral piece, a cozy, low effort get-together. Play fuels inspiration. It’s what keeps our creative hearts soft and alive.

✨ The season isn’t asking you to do more, it’s inviting you to feel more. To design, decorate, and live with presence. Slow down, light the candles, and let the in-between and magic of this season inspire you.🌙🍂

Lots of Ontario flowers, foraged branches and foliage make for a pretty palette to have curated for my bloom bar at celebrating local business partners!

Such a fun and whimsical idea to add to your event or brand activation, inviting guests to select and create their own floral bouquet to take home with them is not only an unexpected surprise, it makes the entire event shine for 2 reasons:

1. If you’re hosting an event that not every guest will know someone at, it provides such a fun immersive and inclusive activity for every attendee to participate in, without being subject to the dreaded feeling of forced networking. Stepping into the bloom bar meadow invites conversations to occur naturally as guests take in the sensory powers that the flowers provide, while allowing for connection through commonality. Whether that is helping one another with colour analysis decisions or sharing stories that the flowers have sparked for them; this type of activity brings a breath of fresh air to your next event that provides a natural sense of community, vs. feeling stranded at the cocktail table.

2. Options = a boost of confidence and empowerment. Allowing your guests to freely select what varieties and colours their heart is calling to from the flower bar, immediately creates feelings of joy and happiness! Providing freedom in their decision making also ignites creativity, leaving your guests feeling inspired✨

Special shoutout to the talented for filming some content for me, thank you!

A Thanksgiving Tablescape that could be the love child of Stars Hollow & Practical Magic ✨

So, you’re hosting Thanksgiving!

On top of all of the grocery store trips, meal prepping, appetizer making and squirrelling away all remnants of your daily life into any drawer & closet that will still close (does anyone else have a Monica’s closet?) you want to create a stunning tablescape for your loved ones to gather around 🍽️

Here are some of my top entertaining tips to inspire vibes that are low on stress but high on beauty:

▫️ Take an inventory of your tablewares and set as much as you can, ahead of time. Prepping the canvas of your table, allows you to get to work early on, so that the parts of hosting you look forward to most, don’t feel rushed and leave you with plenty of time to style.

▫️Repurpose: from a sustainability perspective, I invest in pieces that I can use for mostly all occasions through the year. A linen napkin that can be washed, tablecloths that can be for anything from Valentine’s Day to Thanksgiving. Neutral chargers in different textures. I also thrift and upcycle most of my items. This way, you’re only purchasing things like fresh flowers & new candles like these clean burning tapers shown here by in Taupe.

▫️ Layers add an elevated quality. A tablecloth (or a flat bedsheet is a handy trick!) layered with a runner, a charger under a plate, a napkin folded on top of the place setting, multiple candles. Get creative and reimagine some of the linens that you have on hand.

▫️ Add freshness: once you get your staple pieces into place, the last remaining details (and most fun, in my opinion!) are your fresh items. Thanksgiving is a perfect time to explore using fresh seasonal produce, branches, items from around your yard to add into your table styling. Fresh flowers placed in bud vases, or clusters of gourds; the fresh items always bring the tablescape to life.

Sending you all my best wishes as you embark on your Thanksgiving entertaining journey, I know it’s going to be beautiful and filled with memories 🍂 🦃

The sweetest summer bridal bouquet For my Jennifer 🕊️

These last number of years, I’ve been focused on supporting our local flower farming community as much as possible, in conjunction with reducing the sheer amount of waste and single use plastic products that my little pocket of the industry creates.

My partner, Zack and I live a life where sustainability practices are always top of mind in our day to day living, as well as in both of our businesses, as designers.

It takes a lot of creative problem solving and engineering (even more head scratching at times) and definitely requires you to add more time into your planning and design schedule.

From my ordering practices becoming more and more locally based, to considering the packaging that the flowers show up in, to mechanics in large scale floral installations and down to the last elastic band that I rescue from the compost; perfect I am not, but progress I am surely making.

I’m really proud to say that I’ve been a foam free floral designer fully and completely for the last 2 + years! It sounds both equally not long enough and yet a terrific milestone when I think of the sheer floral engineering that has gone into some of my larger installations.

Most profoundly, by getting my messaging out into the world, I have attracted so many lovely clients who also care deeply for the planet and have been so delighted to find out that I can help them create a beautiful wedding, rooted in as many sustainable choices as possible; and that to me, is worth celebrating!
