Chicken products I use in Ontario, Canada , because not everything you see recommended in the U.S. is easy to get here.
I get asked a lot about what I keep on hand for my flock, especially when it comes to mites, worms, respiratory issues and coccidiosis. So here’s my personal list of products I use and where I find them.
Edited to add - 0 egg withdrawal for any listed product!! As expressed by my personal vet , and I am not telling anyone what they should or shouldn’t use on their own flock !
Bronco Fly Spray — Mites & lice
This is what I use for external parasites. I spray underneath the wings, around the vent and on the back of the neck, then repeat in 7–10 days to catch anything that has hatched.
It’s a liquid spray and can be found at many farm supply stores. The U.S. product you’ll often see recommended for the same purpose is Elector PSP.
Elector PSP can be found in Ontario, but it can be difficult to locate. If you’re near Roslin, Ontario, Donna at Roslin Poultry Ranch carries it.
Tiagard 12.5 — respiratory issues
For birds that are sneezing, sniffling, have eye bubbles or facial swelling, this is one I keep on hand.
I’ve personally used it with my flock and have seen a noticeable improvement within about 48 hours.
It’s a liquid that is added to drinking water. I order mine from Amazon and have it delivered right to my door.
Electrovite Powder — recovery, stress & heat
I use electrolytes to support my birds after illness or stress, and during really hot weather when they’re panting and losing fluids and minerals.
I also give it to newly hatched chicks to help support them as they adjust after hatching.
It’s a powder added to drinking water.
Piperazine Dihydrochloride — roundworms
This is a one-day treatment for roundworms and is a powder added to drinking water.
It can be found at some local farm supply stores.
I also keep Safe-Guard pellets on hand. The active ingredient is fenbendazole and it targets other internal parasites, including cecal worms.
Both are products you can find in Canada, although availability varies.
Amprol / Amprolium — coccidiosis
This is another one I absolutely keep on hand.
I start my chicks on medicated chick starter, but medicated feed doesn’t mean they can never develop coccidiosis. Sometimes you still need to treat an active problem.
Amprol, or amprolium, can be found if you know where to look. Some farm supply stores carry products containing it for cattle, and it can also be ordered online.
It’s a liquid solution added to drinking water.

This year has been one hell of a ride with my birds — mites, respiratory problems, coccidiosis, heat, rain and humidity.
The weather has been all over the place, and with the amount of wet and humid weather we’ve had, I’ve been keeping a much closer eye on my flock.
These are the products I personally like to have available so I’m not scrambling to find them when something happens.
