Emily Beaudoin Art

Emily Beaudoin Art Artwork inspired by the wilderness. Hi, I’m Emily Beaudoin. I am a watercolour and pen and ink artist and muralist based in Canmore, Alberta.

I’ve always been irresistibly drawn to the mountains because they make me feel small, full of wonder, and completely alive. I spend my time hiking, skiing, biking, and paddling into the backcountry in order to paint my experiences. Documenting these peaks, plants and animals is my way of sharing the love and respect I have for them, and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it or stop learning from

my time spent outside. I use vibrant colour, texture, white space and intricate line work to convey the sense of freedom, adventure and energy I experience while in the mountains, as well as my connection to and love for these wild places. I aim to capture the power and ruthlessness of the wilderness as well as its beauty, fragility and extreme vulnerability. My hope is that my art will transport folks to the ridges, summits and valleys I explore and allow them to feel their own sense of connection and awe. The way I see it, people will only fight to protect the wild places they have a relationship with, and if my art inspires even just one person to go outside and want to be a part of the wilderness, I’ll be a happy camper.

Happy Monday! This is not what I’m doing this week. Some weeks I do get to hop on my skis and paint epic views with frosty fingers, friends and lots of pocket snacks, but this week I’m working on about ten projects (and my taxes) at once, scanning and formatting paintings, sending invoices, packaging prints, mocking up murals, applying for a solo show and attempting to book flights across the country (which always stresses me out to no end). I’ll be sitting at my desk working long hours and trying to stave off the desire to doom scroll, procrastinate, and avoid hard things. If your week sounds like mine, you’re not alone, and remember that behind every adventurous looking Instagram account is a ton of lame, very unsexy desk work like this. If your week involves adventure and pocket snacks, enjoy for me, and I’ll hopefully see you out there sometime soon (aka after tax season). Thanks to for the very fun day out on skis with paint!

It’s snowing again in Canmore! Crossing all of my fingers and toes that it keeps coming and ski season will continue. If your goggles have taken a beating this winter, Gogglesocs are on sale on my website right now! They’re made of recycled plastic bottles, covered in my art, and they’ll keep your lenses clean and safe while in your backpack, rolling around in the back of the car, and at après 😉 Thanks for these sweet shots!

Remember this painting? I ruined the first two attempts of it back in early January, and had a wobble in terms of my self confidence in the studio. I took a break, worked on a couple of other projects, and got back to it at the end of the month. At first I was stiff and stressed about ruining it again, but as I worked my way from the summit down, I started to get my groove back. ⁣

I’m so happy with the result, and it was a good reminder that pushing yourself often results in failure. Which is a good thing, even though it can feel gross and uncomfortable in the moment, and can be hard to come back from again and again.⁣

This painting and two others will be in a group show in Calgary on March 10th (which is open to members of the Ranchmens Club only unfortunately). But if it doesn’t sell I’ll have it up for sale on my website as soon as the show is over! Prints, stickers and cards to come as well. ⁣

Huge thank you to for giving me permission to use his beautiful photo as a painting reference, go check him out!
