Becoming a small business owner sounded so cute. 🥰

“Be your own boss,” they said.
“Make your own schedule,” they said.

So anyway… now I have 47 bosses, they’re all bills, and my schedule is EVERY DAMN DAY. 😂

I’ve learned how to bake, manage staff, do payroll, fix equipment, market, order inventory, answer emails, unclog things I never knew could clog, and smile while internally screaming.

✨ Living the dream. ✨

Would I do it again?
Absolutely.

Would I ask significantly more questions first?
Also absolutely. 🤦‍♀️😂

When we saw Joseph’s story, we knew we wanted to help.

Joseph is just 11 years old and has been given an incredible opportunity — he has been selected to travel to Barcelona to train in soccer! ⚽✈️

This young man has worked incredibly hard for this opportunity, and now his family and community are working together to help get him there.

At Rustic Rebel, we have always believed that being a small business means being part of something much bigger than ourselves. When someone in our community has a dream worth getting behind, we want to be there. ❤️

So during the first week of September, 20% of ALL sales at Rustic Rebel Sourdough will be donated toward Joseph’s trip to Barcelona.

There’s nothing extra you need to purchase and nothing extra you need to donate. Simply supporting our bakery during that week means you’re also supporting Joseph.

We’ve seen firsthand what this community can do when it rallies around one of its own.

Since opening our little bakery, we have officially bought and killed EIGHT bread slicers.

Eight.8️⃣.

EIGHT BREAD SLICERS. 😂

Apparently, regular bread slicers were simply not prepared for the amount of sourdough coming out of Rustic Rebel.

At this point, we have probably spent enough replacing them that we could have just bought the commercial slicer we needed in the first place. 🤦‍♀️

So… we finally did. 😂

Our new commercial bread slicer is on its way! 🎉

Unfortunately, slicer #8 has officially sliced its last loaf, so we are temporarily unable to offer sliced bread until its much bigger, much tougher replacement arrives..

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience!

And to bread slicers #1 through #8…

An Update From Rustic Rebel Sourdough

The past week has certainly been an interesting one!

Following what we believe was a very serious and unfounded concern raised about our business, we have welcomed visits from the Fire & Safety Inspector, Electrical Inspector, and the Health Unit.

And we’re happy to share the outcome.

Aside from some minor electrical items that required attention — which were promptly addressed — no other concerns or violations were identified. Each inspector was professional, thorough, and ultimately satisfied with our operations.

While the process caused some inconvenience, including interruptions that affected our business, our staff and, unfortunately, our loyal customers, there is a silver lining: our bakery has now been looked at very closely by multiple regulatory authorities, and we can move forward with confidence and their clearance.

We genuinely appreciated the professionalism of each inspector who attended and the opportunity to work with them. When you operate a food business, safety, cleanliness and compliance should always be taken seriously — and we do.

We’re also very proud to share that Rustic Rebel Sourdough is now an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau. ❤️

At the end of the day, we will continue doing exactly what we have always done: working hard, supporting our community, taking care of our team and serving the customers who have supported this little bakery from the beginning.

Sometimes an unexpected challenge simply gives you another opportunity to show what your business is made of.

Now, back to baking. 🥖❤️

💙 A New Way for Rustic Rebel to Support Health Sciences North Foundation 💙

Since the very beginning, giving back to our community has been an important part of who we are at Rustic Rebel.

Whether it's supporting local organizations, community initiatives or causes close to our hearts, we've always believed that if our community supports us, we should do our best to support our community in return.

Many may not know that every single week, 20% of all Rustic Rebel sales through Pet Save Re'Tail' Thrift Store are donated directly back to support Pet Save and their animal rescue efforts. 🐾❤️

We've also been incredibly proud to attend the HSN Foundation fundraisers, where 20% of our sales have been donated to HSN. On average, we've been able to contribute approximately $700 each month we attended toward supporting local healthcare.

As the demand at our bakery continues to grow, however, we've realized that we're simply no longer able to dedicate the immense amount of preparation time required to attend these events while also keeping our bakery running and serving our customers.

Preparing enough product for the fundraiser, staffing both locations and being away from the bakery for the event requires a tremendous amount of time and resources. With everything happening at the bakery, we simply can't be in two places at once.

But one thing was never up for debate — we didn't want to stop supporting HSN. 💙

So we're changing how we give back.

Beginning September, the last Wednesday, Thursday & Friday of EVERY month will be our HSN Give Back Days!

🏥 20% of ALL sales at the bakery during those three days will be donated to HSN Foundation..

Simply stopping in for your bread, bagels, breakfast, lunch, coffee or favourite sweet treat means you'll be helping support healthcare right here in our community.

The more our community shops during those three days, the more we're able to give. ❤️

We're incredibly grateful that our community continues to support this little bakery and allows us to continue giving back to the organizations doing incredible work around us.
