What can we say?

Thank you so much for stopping by Robert McMillan Pottery 🥰❤️🥰🇨🇦

Our hearts of overwhelmed by your kindness, and support of Robert’s art, craft and trade!❤️

We have been blown away by your stories of what his pottery means to you and how far his pots have travelled in the world! Denmark, UK, Singapore, Japan, Australia, Chile, many places across the United States, Canada and beyond!

For years Robert has spent his years behind the wheel and now that the Studio is open for tours Robert get’s to hear your stories while he shares some of his!

So thank you for sharing and being a part of our experience! We have a great time in the Studio as well as up in the Gallery.

We talk pots and pottery but we talk life, make friends, find connections between people through laughing, listening to music and sharing conversations! In the Potter’s workspace and outside in the Potter’s Porch and garden areas, we are becoming the place to BE!

It is not just a place to buy pottery, it’s a place where time stands still and the focus is on joy of creation and connecting with people!

We take pictures, hug and have fun!

You might have dropped in to meet us or check out Robert’s beautiful pottery! I take a lot of pictures to share with you on our posts. You might see yourself in them. What great times we had!

The last few weeks has been a blur getting the pots through the process, out of the kilns, sanded smooth and photographed and on the shelves.

Robert worked days throwing mugs and bowls, drying (even putting them to dry in the meadow!) glazing and getting them in and out of the kilns!

Phoenix was even firing beside DraGON this week giving us 3 loads of pottery for the week that carried us through from Thursday to Sunday and I’m pleased to say many were pleased with their soup bowls, mugs, wine cups, teapots and larger bowls!

In the swirl line we only had 2 Soup Bowls and 1 stubby mug left that will go to shipped orders across Canada🇨🇦 So guess what? We SOLD OUT completely of the Swirls by Sunday night! 😳😮🥰😃😃👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

We had many visitors in from UK, South Carolina and many from Alberta this weekend and Ontario and a sweet couple from Turkey!
We are so surprised by the numbers from local PEI: Kensington, Summerside,Charlottetown,Cornwall and the Eastern tip of the Island Montague!❤️ And the many visitors from New Brunswick on day trips from Fredericton, Saint John, Rothesay, Hampton,Sussex and Moncton and their surrounding areas! It is lovely to see you and make the connections!❤️

And if you have not been able to drop in and follow us on our socials and have requested product, please bear with us as we go through this very busy time! We are trying to get our orders out in a timely manner but our day to day in the Studio and Gallery take up most of our energy and time!

Robert and I have been working hard running the Hope River Studio here! Robert is only one guy and we are both working hard but we also have to find the balance to still make things fun so the business of pottery making is still a joy for us!
😃❤️😃

Thank you to Karen Pyra and Jim, and Margaret Champion and DantheMan for the great evening out at the Dave Gunning Concert at the Trailside! I am glad we take the time to make these moments so special! Dave an awesome show and we love are new record! ❤️

Thanks also to Pam and Roger Gillcash of Poppies Porch for spending time on our Sunday evening after the long workweek!
You chairs and tables compliment our pottery so well in our photo’s we can’t thank you enough! ❤️
Your friendship and collaboration with our business is greatly valued and appreciated!

So our doors are closed for another few days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We are preparing for the long Labour day weekend and realize a lot of our vacation families are going home!

What a GREAT SUMMER it was!
😃😄😃❤️🥰😃😊🤭😀❤️

And while we are closed, Robert will be spending time in The Studio making pots and working them through the process. I will be catching up on orders to be shipped.

I also hope to get time to decorate some ornaments, tiles and work on my hummingbird tiles, glaze my 10 pots and hopefully sitting at the wheel to throw again!

I also have my sister coming from Ottawa so we hope to play tourist and see some sites on the Island!

So until Robert and I, see you again❤️ Know our little Studio may look quiet on the outside but it is humming away on the inside!

But for tonight in our sleepy little Gallery my door looks pretty with the light glowing through, my desk has its papers where I left them, the record player is quiet.

Robert is downstairs checking his pots for the night and covering them up, my pots lie on boards, my ornaments and tiles, calling to me to be glazed but I tell them not tonight, maybe tomorrow!

The wheels are resting by the window they will be busy by tomorrow!

Phoenix 😴and DraGON 😴are resting 🤫before they start working on Wednesday:) They are a great part of our team. ❤️❤️They work well together just like Robert and I!

So I’ll keep you posted in the days ahead with the product we will have on the long weekend!

And you know …we’ll have a good time then❤️

Last week we had a tremendous finish to our week.

The Studio has seen so many people from far and wide. Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland & Labrador. We saw many from Ontario and Quebec
❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️

We are surprised to see so many from the United States . Wonderful warm people!

We love giving our tours and teaching you about Robert’s pottery. We not only talk pottery. We also talk about life as we usually do around here in the gallery and studio. When we share all of our stories it is a way to connect to you the buyer, get instant feedback and develop a relationship. That is our brand!🥰❤️🥰🇨🇦

Robert and I are both working to get the pottery made and put on the shelves for you!

Last week and this week we took advantage of the good sunny windy days to help the pottery dry. Robert processed countless pieces to fill two kilns. Robert is a super man to accomplish this, considering the time he spends on the different glaze techniques that he does!

3 different glaze phases of dipping, brushing and spraying 10+ plus glazes on one piece of work, makes his pottery stand out as pieces of art. He is the Van Gogh of Pottery ❤️

The gallery is open Friday ~ Sunday
10-5 pm we have a few standard size Fuzzy Swirl left and lots of water tumblers and water cups and bowls in the gallery now.

Robert will be doing demos as he is sitting at the wheel today making Swirls if you want to see the process you are welcome to go down in the Studio to watch!

The stubby shorter wider Fuzzy swirl mug in flat bottom and teardrop shape will be unloaded sometime this weekend along with the new Latte Soup Bowls! We are pretty excited about them.

Robert is trying a new colour called dandelion and honey so it will be interesting to see how they turn out!

We’ll keep you posted!😃

So we are open and ready for another full and exciting weekend!

Stories of the Studio

DraGON Carries a Heavy Load

Dragon delivers another big load of beautiful mugs, bowls and spoon jars!

It is gratifying to Robert to see the hours of standing over glaze buckets: dipping, brushing and then spraying his many glazes on to get the desired effect. These dull flat coloured pots spring to life with of spectrum of colours with the pop of his lid! It’s just like Christmas morning every time!

Robert has a rough idea what the design may look like but DraGON our big kiln has the last say in deciding how the glaze reacts to his heat! Sometimes it is pleasing and sometimes not. 😳
But with this load, there are some wonderful new mugs for the gallery.

Welcome news for me as we quickly get them sanded and sitting on shelves tomorrow morning by opening at 10am!

There is 1 lonely Shoreline mug standing on the shelf besides the teapots, pitchers and many different sizes of differently designed bowls.

There were only 3 big latte soup mugs in this load. There was a huge interest in them today with people coming into the Studio! ❤️ These are a brand new development. So these 3 are the first generation of a brand new form for Robert! 👏🏼🎉👏🏼

We will have another kiln load fire tomorrow but it won’t be done until Sunday night late or Monday morning. Too late for sale for this weekend

We are still undecided on our hours next week. We are still trying to provide enough of a selection for our visitors!

Robert is making some gains in the Studio for next week! 😃 we will be closed Monday and Tuesday and I will post on Tursdaynight if we will have our regular 10-5pm Wednesday - Sunday!

As you can see from the table. Our little Rustic Gallery will be full. I will have a full gallery again, tomorrow morning!😃

Thank you to everyone that has come in to visit and check on various favourites that they have seen online through the Facebook posts. We are thrilled with such an overwhelming response from you our visitors!

Keep in mind, each mug is an individual design and as they evolve from one kiln load to another Robert makes changes to colours and patterns.

That being said hopefully you will find a mug that will hold your hand and suits you, in the Robert McMillan Gallery.

Tomorrow the mugs on the table are the mugs that will be up in the gallery. All the mugs in the previous Facebook pictures have been sold as well as all the vases!

Tomottow we feature a standard coffee mug with Fuzzy swirl design!
Swirls on the outside and beautifully mixed colour swirls on the inside!

The stubbies and the more rounds teardrop shape that were featured over the past few weeks will be ready next week!

Robert designs each and every piece by himself. He does not make mugs on their own but he makes bowl, butter dishes, teapots etc.

Each piece takes time to be handled during 3 different phases of glazing.
6-16 glazes on each piece depending on the design. So you know your mug has been well cared for as it steps through the process of being clay on the wheel to the mug on the shelf!

He’s really worked hard to fill up the kilns 😃 I’m pretty proud of him and the work he does!🥰

So congratulations Robert for making 70+ pieces so we could open by Friday! And the 70+ pieces to replenish our stock of mugs for Sunday! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

The Studio may or may not run tours as we are a team of two people.
Robert will be at the wheel throwing swirl stubbies and teardrop shape for next week!

We have the studio roped off so you can view what a big production pottery studio. The boards of pottery contain pots in all different phases so please just look.
Fingerprints can smear, break off layers of glaze and ruin a mug that hours of work has gone into. Thank you so much for your care.

The glazing area is a place to look at and our visitors are not invited into this space. This is Robert’s private workspace area and glazing area.

Depends on the business of the gallery whether I can get down and explain the process of glazing.

We do love to have people go down and watch! If you do get a chance to get down to see and meet Robert you will see him making Swirl mugs.

A technique he uses with decorating on wet clay. It is fascinating to watch! And if you purchase a swirl you be able to explain the process to your friends! That is the fun of visiting the Studio you get to meet the Potter and see how he magically makes his mugs!

Come by and join us tomorrow!
We’ll have a good time then! ❤️
