Closing day is not the finish line. It’s the beginning.

The keys are in your hand and the adrenaline is real — but the first few days in your new home matter more than most people realise. A few simple tasks done early can protect your investment, give you peace of mind and make the whole transition feel so much smoother.

Change the locks before you do anything else. You have no idea how many copies of the old keys exist. Find your water main and gas shutoff valves before you need them in an emergency. Deep clean while the home is empty — you will NEVER have this opportunity again. If you’re painting or replacing floors, always paint first.

These are the things I walk every single one of my buyers through — because getting the keys is just the beginning of the story.

Before you buy anywhere — drive the loop. The coffee shop, the school, the grocery store, the park, the place you’ll grab dinner on a Tuesday when nobody wants to cook. Drive it in the morning. Drive it at night. See how it feels.

In Norfolk County that loop looks like locally owned cafes, Turkey Point on a Saturday, school drop off in under 10 minutes and a parking spot that’s always waiting for you.
