Just casually designing floor plans, looking this put together. Obviously. 😂

In reality, I’ve been at my makeshift desk in the unfinished basement since 6 a.m., still in my housecoat at noon, wondering where the last 14 hours went.

No music. No concept of time. Full hermit mode.
And LOVING every minute of it.

New projects and floor plans seriously feed me. I get completely absorbed in how a house will function. How people will move through it. Where they’ll gather. How the lighting, ceiling heights and transitions will make each space feel.

In my head, I’m already living in this house. Walking through every room. Moving walls. Rethinking doorways. Just one more adjustment…

Anyway, please enjoy this very polished branding photo while I return to my basement in my housecoat.

I used to think being good at choosing paint colours meant knowing the right colour almost instantly.

Experience helps. Understanding undertones and colour theory helps. But there’s also the work: comparing samples, visiting the site, checking at different times of the day, checking in different seasons, and making sure every material works together.

After I shared a photo of this exterior, another client commented that “talent was the result of effort”.

That stayed with me.

I spent months considering the stucco colour on this home. Looking at it alongside the stone, mortar, shingles and windows. Revisiting those subtle differences that seem so small on a sample but make such an impact across an entire house.

Whether you’re building a new home or updating your exterior, those selections deserve time and attention.

Sometimes a finished result makes a decision look effortless. But behind it is a whole lot of effort. 🤍

Entrepreneurship can feel heavy sometimes.

There are weeks where the responsibility of it all feels bigger than the joy of it, and this week was a bit of a roller coaster.

I spent most of my Saturday in the studio cleaning, organizing and trying to put a few things back in order. And somewhere in the middle of that, I was reminded how grateful I am for the work I get to do.

I really believe we’re all called to serve in some way; to use the gifts, abilities and opportunities we’ve been given for something beyond ourselves. INDEX is one of the places I get to live that out.

Design may look like finishes, floor plans and beautiful spaces from the outside, but at its best, it’s service. It’s listening well, solving problems, caring about how people live, and using what I know to make someone’s home or business work better for them.

Sometimes serving feels heavy. Sometimes running a business feels heavy.

And still, what a gift to be able to use the talents God has given me to do work I genuinely love.

Tonight I’m leaving tired, but very grateful … grateful for this space, for the people who trust me, for the work in front of me, and for the opportunity to keep building something with purpose.

301 Victoria Ave. has so much going for it: a beautiful established lot, great bones, a seriously strong layout, and a ton of potential.

It’s still on the market and there’s an open house this Saturday 👀

Now I want to know: if this was your house, what room would you tackle first?

Because I have a lot of opinions about that kitchen + laundry + back entrance situation… and I may need to make that Part 2.

A new kitchen. Beautiful cabinetry. Thoughtfully selected hardwoods.

These are often the investments we plan for when building a new home or taking on a major renovation.

But the part that quietly transforms a house into a home?

The furnishings.

The sofa where your family gathers every evening. The dining table that hosts birthdays and holiday dinners. The artwork, textures, lighting, and layers that tell your story and make a space feel unmistakably yours.

When I first started INDEX Design Studio, furnishings were something I often stepped away from. I thought my role ended once the renovation was complete.

Over the years, that perspective has completely changed.

The deeper I’ve become involved in my clients’ homes, the more I’ve realized that furnishings aren’t the finishing touch. They’re the piece that brings everything to life.

They’re what protect the investment you’ve made in your renovation by ensuring every decision works together as one cohesive vision. They create warmth, comfort, personality, and connection. They turn beautifully designed rooms into homes that truly reflect the people who live there.

It’s become one of my favourite parts of the design process.
