No machine in my shop could cut the curve on these legs. So I carved them by hand.
This 56” round coffee table is white oak and weighs about 200 lbs. The legs follow the curve of the top, and I didn’t have the tooling to cut that profile. So I stepped it out on the table saw, a kerf at a time, then took the waste out with chisels, ridge by ridge. A hand plane, a grinder and a lot of sanding brought it back to one clean curve.
Then it went absolute black. The open grain of the oak still shows through.
Built for our clients, and one of the hardest pieces to leave this shop.
