Soper Creek Yarn

Soper Creek Yarn Where Beautiful Projects Begin! Located in Historic Village of Orono. A bright shop filled with everything you need to complete a knitting project.

Great gifts for your knitting friends too! The Shop opened at 80 King Street West, Bowmanville on December 1st, 2008 and in June 2013 we expanded into the shop next door, doubling the space. In 2019 we downsized the shop and moved everything to a 1920"s Bank Building, with vaults still inside, in the beautiful Village of Orono, Ontario.

Finished Project Friday!

Can you see how much I love this sweater! It took a few weeks to make this, usually sweaters take months. The design by is well designed, I loved the combination of the round yoke and raglan increases. The yarn is KPPPM from my stash, some were a project that I abandoned and other bits were skeins I adopted. The Kid mohair lace was a 1000 meter skein from our friends at Hand Maiden yarn, I think it’s discontinued.

The garment did grow a bit after blocking, but the fit is perfect. These loosely knit garments will do that, so be careful of your gauge and maybe swatch if you aren’t sure.

I might try this one again with a worsted weight yarn for a classic garment.

Throw back Thursday?

These socks were a quick knit, as the pattern kept me interested in the project. The pattern was designed by Stephen West, one of my favourite designers.

Glittering snowscape socks: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/glittering-snowscape-socks

They were knit with a gradient yarn so I ignored the colour changes and let the yarn do the work.

There are a few available on the website:

The yarn will make 2 identical socks, there was a bit leftover after making this pair (ladies size 9 - 10 )

Enjoy this beautiful day!

Work in Progress Wednesday?

The cutest pattern came up through one of the many channels in my feed. This one from Tin Can knits was just too cute to avoid? There was some yarn in inventory that needed a feature, but I am not convinced it works for the design?

We love hand dyed yarn, but sometimes it’s difficult to get it to actually work in a pattern, sometimes the pooling it just too busy for a simple pattern. I am going to finish this as a short sleeved garment, LittleSis will happily wear it.

It’s designed for Sport weight or dk yarn, Estelle Double knit would work well, it just doesn’t have the speckles.

I might raid some personal stash to come up with a tiny version to keep in my inventory of ‘new’ baby garments!

The view from here?

Finally a day to be outside! Our gardens need a bit of work, so today I’ll be out there working away at them.

I’ve been tweaking the website a bit too! (Hint: some of the needles have been reduced in price, but in stock only!)

Get outside today it’s beautiful!

Step 1: Find yarn (it’s here somewhere)
Step 2: Decide to change needle size for neckband
Step 3: Needle size is AWOL , go with suggested size anyway.
Step 4: Cast on stitches using German twisted cast on, run out of long tail.
Step 5: Undo cast on, adjust ‘long tail’ and cast on required stitches.
Step 6: Begin project, admire work and decide that neckband is too small for recipient’s head
Step 7: Find a new needle size, cast on again. Work a few rounds.
Step 8: Think back to last project and decide to make the next size up.
Step 9: Pull work off needles, check pattern for new cast on, it’s the same number of stitches.
Step 10: Try to pick up the stitches, end up working the neckband in the wrong direction.
Step 11: stuff project in a bag and go outside and pull some weeds!

Work in Progress Wednesday?

I found a long lost project and realized it wasn’t really ever going to be finished. It was unraveled and it sat waiting for the right project. I found ‘Calliope’ designed by Espace Tricot. This design is done with a strand of fi*****ng weight yarn and a lace weight mohair knit together. I was short a bit of the fi*****ng weight Koigu KPPPM, but there were some nice options for contrast colours. There was the perfect mohair to match in stock too!

I am enjoying this knit, and should have it done soon.

Do the colours inspire a colour palette for the Alaska Hat design?

I wasn’t going to post a warm woolly scarf today? This cold wet day has me back in socks and a sweater.

These are so much fun and each carries a memory of a long ago project.

Find a cozy spot, make a warm beverage and work on a favourite project!

Car knitting at the ready!

TheFarmer had a long day and asked if I would drive him and TheBoy over to the field to pick up the seed drill and a truck. There were 120 acres of soybeans planted today. It’s been a wet cold spring and it’s nice to see that there are only a few acres left to do! I realized that after they got the equipment to where it needed to go they would need a ride home.

The wait in the car wasn’t too long, knitting helped to pass the time. Just a simple sock, my own recipe created from years of knitting socks!

Throw back Thursday?

This was a good project. The knitting was fairly easy and the pattern changes kept it interesting. The pattern is easy to adapt to most yarn weights, just change the needle to suit the yarn.

The Sport made this project affordable and warm. I thought this would work for an ‘over the coat’ wrap for those chilly days, I hope we don’t have those for a while. It would make a great campfire wrap.

There isn’t much of the Briggs & Little yarn left on the website, the remaining is on sale and we won’t be filling up with new orders.
