Reflecting on this past year, it’s been a ride. It was filled with joy, uncertainty and so many moments that changed me. I got married, I moved, I worried endlessly about how my children would handle such a big change, and then my husband got sick. Suddenly we were facing a future we couldn’t predict, not knowing what it would mean for our family.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I started writing again.

I hadn’t done any serious writing since college, but once I started, it just flowed. Now I can’t stop. Every thought gets jotted down somewhere. Every idea turns into another page, another story, another possibility. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be creatively, and I truly believe there’s so much more to come.

Life is good. We are happy. We are healthy.

Here’s to the last year in my 30s. I’m not afraid to age. I’m excited to see who I continue to become. With each decade I spend on this earth, I become more and more who I’m supposed to be.

Saturday brunch at our house was a Newfie Benny this morning. A homemade touton topped with fried bologna, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce. I also found these new mini hash brown patties at Sobeys and the kids absolutely loved them.

We have a family brunch every Saturday and it’s something the kids really look forward to. I always try to switch it up — crepes one week, pancakes the next, scrambled eggs or boiled, bologna, bacon, or sausage. It’s not fancy, but it’s our little tradition together.

Blueberry Cake with Brown Sugar Sauce has always meant the end of summer to me. Every Labour Day weekend, we head to the Ridge to pick berries until our fingers turn purple and our buckets are full. Before the berries even make it to the freezer, this cake is already in the oven — served warm with rich brown sugar sauce and shared around the table after a long day on the Ridge.

The book itself is listed at $18.99, but unfortunately once shipping is added it comes to around $35.99. If you’ve been wanting a copy, Amazon is still the more affordable option for most people right now.

Still, seeing my little Newfoundland storybook available on Barnes & Noble feels pretty surreal. Never in a million years did I think my stories would end up there.
