Here is may latest build. It's a Wind Phone and is now at Providence Living (The Views) in Comox.
All made with natural products from the earth except the rotary phone. Remember these old rotary phones?
Made from old growth Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir wood.
3D Printed (plant based) plaque.
Treated with Tung oil, which is a natural, plant-based drying oil pressed from the seeds of the tung tree (Vernicia fordii). It hardens via exposure to air and oxidation to create a durable, water-resistant, and hand-rubbed finish on wood.
The old phone was donated and delivered from a person living in Parksville.
WHAT IS A WIND PHONE?
A wind phone (kaze no denwa) is a disconnected, old-fashioned rotary or push-button phone housed in a quiet, secluded outdoor space that people use to have one-way conversations with deceased loved ones.
Origin
• Created in Japan (2010): Garden designer Itaru Sasaki built the first wind phone in his garden in Ōtsuchi, Japan, after losing his cousin to cancer. He installed a disconnected rotary phone inside a phone booth so he could process his grief, explaining: "Because my thoughts couldn't be relayed over a regular phone line, I wanted them to be carried on the wind."
