π₯π² Wildfire Community Preparedness Day β Deer Lakeπ²π₯
Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is an annual initiative dedicated to raising awareness about wildfire risks and encouraging communities to take proactive steps to reduce their vulnerability to wildfires.
Traditionally observed on the first Saturday in May... and yes, we're a little late π... but it's never too late to become better prepared!
Deer Lake Fire Rescue is proud to partner with FireSmart Canada and the Town of Deer Lake to host an evening focused on wildfire preparedness, emergency readiness, and community resilience.
π
**Wednesday, June 17, 2026**
β° **6:00 PM β 8:30 PM**
π **Deer Lake Fire Hall β 26 Reid's Lane**
Wildfires don't just impact individual properties, they can affect entire neighbourhoods and communities.
That's why preparedness is a shared responsibility. By working together, we can reduce wildfire risks, strengthen our community's resilience, and better protect our homes, families, and the beautiful landscapes that make Newfoundland such a special place to live.
During the evening, you'll learn how to:
β
Understand wildfire risks in our area
β
Create an emergency plan for your household
β
FireSmart your home and property
β
Build an emergency preparedness kit
β
Connect with local firefighters and community partners
Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is more than a one-day event, it's a reminder that preparedness is something we should think about year-round.
Every step we take today helps create a safer, stronger, and more resilient community for tomorrow.
Bring the whole family and join us for an evening of learning, fun, and community action!
