What Does an AB Pattern Mean in Vinyl and Laminate Flooring?

Approximately only 1O% of Vinyl and Laminate floors have an AB pattern match, which allows two different visual patterns, A and B, to create a greater visual variation across the floor before the same visual appears again.

When choosing wood-look vinyl, pattern repeat can affect how natural the finished floor looks. Check with your sales person.

Why does this matter?
• More variation between planks
• Fewer noticeable repeats
• A more natural-looking finished floor

Before Your Flooring Is Installed…

Most flooring should be allowed to adjust to the temperature and conditions of the room where it will be installed, especially during colder weather.

Why? Flooring materials can react to changes in temperature and humidity.

🌿 Cork
💧 Vinyl
🏠 Laminate

Acclimation requirements can be different for every product, so always follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions.

Your flooring professional can also make sure the flooring and subfloor are properly prepared before installation.

How Do You Choose the Right Laminate Colour for Your Space?

Start with the size and lighting of the room.

Light laminate can help a smaller or darker room feel brighter and more open. Medium tones offer plenty of design flexibility, while darker flooring can create a rich, grounded look, particularly in larger or well-lit spaces.

Also consider the undertones in your cabinets, walls and furniture, and view flooring samples in your own space during both the day and evening.

Not sure which direction to go? Ask a designer or flooring sales professional to help find colours and options that work with your space.

3 Things to Look for When Choosing Vinyl Flooring

Choosing vinyl flooring? Look beyond the colour and consider what goes into the plank.

1️⃣ Construction
Look at the core, overall thickness and wear layer.

2️⃣ Comfort & Backing
Check what’s underneath the plank. Vinyl may have attached cork backing, foam underlayment or no attached pad, depending on the product.

3️⃣ Lifestyle
Think about how the room will be used. Water resistance, pets, children and everyday traffic can all influence your choice.

Looking for an example? Opus Floors Canada Maestro Plus features a WPC core, 20 mil wear layer and premium cork backing. It’s water resistant, pet friendly and kid friendly.

Soft. Warm. Naturally renewable. 🍃

Cork flooring feels comfortable underfoot, with natural warmth and distinctive character.
Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak tree, which can regenerate its bark, making cork a renewable flooring material.

Why does Canadian climate matter when choosing hardwood flooring? 🍁

Changes in temperature and indoor humidity throughout the year can affect real wood.

Engineered hardwood is constructed in layers, which provides greater dimensional stability than a solid piece of wood as indoor conditions change.
No matter which hardwood you choose, maintaining appropriate indoor temperature and humidity remains important. Make sure you check your manufacturers recommendations for your engineered hardwood.

How can plank size change the look of a room?

Longer laminate planks can help create a more open, streamlined look by reducing the number of visible end joints across the floor.

They can also help draw the eye through a space, which can make the flooring feel more continuous from one area to the next.

Opus Floors Canada offers longer plank laminate options, giving homeowners another design element to consider when choosing their floor.
