Yes, I hand paint every chicken! This video only shows me doing the outline of the design. I’ve sped up the video for the most part but one of these took me 5.15min to do in real time. Made with ❤️

I love being a potter. The feel of the clay, forming it, making something out of mud, decorating it, adding embellishments, spending a whole evening on a piece and being pretty happy with the outcome.
Then you cover everything up, baby it, to make it dry slowly, only to come back 2 days later and find cracks in it and trash the whole piece. Sigh! Yup, I love being a potter but some days suck!

What I learned and worked on during my surface decoration workshop with at .
The pieces have only been bisqued and there is still stuff I need to do before glaze firing them but I’m pretty happy how they turned out so far. Making the rollers and stamps was also a lot of fun.

My first 3 days at my Fogo Clay Studio Retreat 😍

If you are wondering about the Wishing Stone. They are smooth round stones that have one or more white lines on them. Tradition goes that when you find one, you make a wish and throw it back in the ocean, or, if you wish to keep it you HAVE to come back and make your wish here and throw it back into the ocean. I KEPT MINE 😉

Glazing day…my LEAST favourite part of pottery.
When I create the items I always think “oh, x glaze will look great on this piece” and of course totally can’t remember what I had in mind and completely blank out once the pieces come out of the bisque kiln.
Glaze has gotten so expensive that I try to keep to single glazes or max 2 or 3 glaze layer combos. However, every glaze I put on requires as least 2 coats, in most cases 3, and all layers have to fully dry in between, so this is very time consuming.
In this load I have to glaze:
70 mugs
13 tumblers
10 nests
14 gnomes
4 ramen bowls
3 butter dishes
9 scrubby holders
1 cream and sugar set
And reglaze 1 oil bottle
Wish me luck! I may never emerge from my studio again 😅😰🫪🥵
