Do you have a Singer Featherweight (or similar) collecting dust or tucked away on a shelf just waiting to be used? Join Tammi Lee, vintage sewing machine repair specialist, for a full day workshop on understanding your machine and maintaining it.
Students can expect to learn the following:
-troubleshooting your machine: recognizing problems you can solve and problems a specialist should looks at
-tension: why we need to look at it, what it is and what it isn’t, how to adjust it from a user’s point of view and from a repair point of view
-Tools and helpers
-Cleaning: this will include some simple disassembly
-Common adjustments: belts, bobbin winder guides, etc.
-An understanding of lubricants
-Assessing motor brushes
-Foot pedal maintenance
-Cord replacements
-Basic restoration of the appearance of the machine
-Timing- what is this?
-Sewing machine misconceptions
Students will each receive a repair kit that includes a grease syringe, oil syringe, grease, sewing machine oil, machine prop, screwdriver guard, bulb removal tool, 90/14 needle, spool pin felt, bamboo skewer, pipe cleaners, and a magnetic sheet.
