Had such a fun time at the Secret Walls X Edmonton Mural Festival event on Saturday!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the event and blow out their lungs screaming for us to win the battle. It was one for the ages!

Shout to the artists who all did an amazing job and made it a really fun battle! โ€œYOU HAD TO BE THEREโ€ is really all I can say to capture this evening, but I will still try to explain it. Casting a dead bat in resin at the chateau was one of my favourite days of the year. Itโ€™s hard to explain why, but for me there was something so special about a bunch of adults being kids as we held a ceremony for this bat, and cast him in resin. There was a beautiful combination of serious and silly, being able to laugh and play pretend as we said some kind words, sang, and gave prayers for this bat. The enthusiasm of the tribe really made this whole thing so fun and personally helped me move through some personal grief. I find laughter to be the best medicine, and this was exactly what the doctor ordered. Currently missing all of my fellow residents from the chateau. Special thanks to Charles Osawa for making the coffin and casting the bat, Sara Hanson Fine Arts Studio for leading the charge with Hallelujah and Ekram Ibrahim for saying some kind prayers as we send this bat into the afterlife.

Here is my second commission painting for Ed Robertson from Ba*****ed Ladies it was such a treat to do two paintings for a Canadian icon. I call this painting Unsupervised Playtime. A reflection on the work parents do for their kids to protect their innocence from the realities of life. Last week I flew out to Toronto to drop these artworks off in person and get his reaction. I was a little nervous but his reaction says it all. I hope you enjoy the art I do and look forward to sharing for paintings and the process of creation.

This isnโ€™t your average paint battle! ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŽจ The teams are set. Itโ€™s a 3 vs 3 match up, all fun and games but each team has 90 minutes to flex their skills on a massive wall. Losing team gets executed on site.โ˜ ๏ธ This is an all ages event.

Come watch the chaos unfold as we navigate the pressure with little planning, lots of teamwork, and a touch of creativity.

OLD STRATHCONA EDMONTON MURAL & FOOD TOUR ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ˜‹

Such a lovely time working with the Edmonton Mural Festival (EMF) to organize and lead tours for the fourth annual fest which is on now until September 15! More than a dozen new murals will be added to the city this year as part of EMF.

Our Old Strathcona tour took us in and around Whyte Ave. and ended on the Edmonton Fringe grounds. We stopped at a dozen murals, met, chatted with and watched two artists paint live (Josh Harnack and Andrรฉa Schmidt), and we supported three local businesses with food from Remedy Cafe, flipsidebbqyeg, and Yelo'd! Everyone also took home an Old Strathcona Business Association Mural Map to return for some self-guided local art fun in the neighbourhood.

There are two tours remaining: Shop 124 Street & Area on August 30 (almost sold out) + Edmonton Downtown on September 3. Tickets have just launched for a Paint Battle & Block Party on Sept. 5 as well!
