Turning this vessel got pretty interesting with such a large void in the surface! A lovely old tree at the Eston Riverside Park had fallen ill with time and needed to come down. This is one of my attempts to keep it around awhile longer, albeit in a different form.

This gorgeous piece of Western Red Cedar Burl was cut and left outdoors for 25 years before I got the opportunity to shape it into this hollow form. Exposure to the elements had made a large portion of the burl unsound, leading to natural voids in the finished piece.
