Shana Boudreau - The Scrappy Rebel Currently resurrecting 1800s protocols for a modern world. 🍎⚓️ Stay Scrappy! The Scrappy Rebel: Rebel. Rescue. Create. I call it the Scrappy Rebellion.

In a volatile world, self-sufficiency is the ultimate rebellion. 🌿 I’m Shana: a former Distiller using 19th-century science to rescue food and reclaim lost skills. I’m Shana Boudreau, and I believe that history isn’t something to just look at—it’s something to use. In a world that feels increasingly out of our control, the quietest, most powerful way to take our power back is in the kitchen. As th

e former Head Distiller of Maritime Moonshine, I spent years mastering the science of fermentation and botanicals. Today, I’m combining that professional "Distiller’s Eye" with my passion for 19th-century living. What I do:

Resurrecting the 1800s: I’m currently deep-diving into the 1862 Dr. Chase manuals and 19th-century protocols to prove that the "old ways" are the best way to live a self-sufficient, modern life. Historical On-Site Sessions: I am currently developing a series of "in-the-field" historical recreations, bringing 19th-century recipes and chemistry to life in authentic settings. The Art of the Rescue: From making "Distiller-Grade" Apple Cider Vinegar from scraps to preserving the harvest, I teach you how to be a creator, not just a customer. This is a safe way to rebel. It’s practical, it’s frugal, and it’s deeply rooted in our Maritime heritage. Let's get scrappy.

Stop throwing away those brown bananas! 🍌

The new video is officially LIVE on the channel! Today, I’m sharing my absolute favorite, foolproof old-school recipe that delivers perfect, ultra-moist banana bread every single time.

Did you know that modern mashed banana bread didn't even exist before the 1930s? I've dropped a neat little history nugget in the video description for all my fellow food history nerds, but the video itself is 100% focused on getting you the perfect slice.

Grab those spotty bananas, head over to the channel, and let's bake! Link is in the first comment below

🚨 WARNING: THIS 1953 RECIPE WILL RUIN YOU. 🛑🍫

I did a dangerous thing. I opened up a 1953 Better Homes & Gardens New Cook Book and baked their Feathery Fudge Cake.

And now? Modern chocolate cake is officially ruined for me.

Dead and buried. 🪦🍰

The grocery store box mixes? Lies and dissapointment.

Turns out, all it takes to make the most rich, decadent, velvety chocolate cake of your life is a little mid-century wisdom, real honest-to-goodness ingredients, and a bit of kitchen grit. 1953 didn't play around.

If you want to see exactly how this 70-year-old masterpiece put modern baking to absolute shame, grab a fork and check out the new video! I even included a bonus short in the middle where I made a grave error..no one will know...eeps.

Watch the delicious destruction here: https://youtu.be/RqRCVOc14dU

RECLAIM the scratch-cook kitchen. RESCUE the real flavor. REIMAGINE the loaf (or the cake!). 🔪🍰

Be honest—when you need a chocolate fix, are you Team Scratch-Made or do you have a secret convenience store box-mix weakness? Tell me your favorite vintage bake in the comments! 👇

Happy Mother’s Day to every kind of mom making a difference today.

Whether you are raising children, caring for your fur babies, tending to a house full of plants, or simply nurturing a dream—you are part of a long lineage of women who know that care is an act of courage.

We often think of "making a difference" as something loud, but most of the time, it’s found in the small steps:

Choosing to fix something instead of throwing it away.

Passing down a family story while standing over the stove.

Learning a new skill to provide a better life for those you love.

Simply showing up, day after day, with a heart ready to grow.

Today, I’m looking back at the mothers and grandmothers who taught us how to be resilient, but I’m also looking at you. Whether you’re a seasoned pro in the kitchen or just starting to take those first small steps toward independence, your efforts matter. You are the bridge between the wisdom of the past and the hope of the future.

To the moms of kids, the moms of pets, the moms of gardens, moms to be and the moms of "making it work"—thank you for everything you grow.

Stay Scrappy,
Shana

Meet My Latest Acquisition: The 1909 Singer "Sphinx" 🏛️✨
I am so excited to share my newest find—a beautiful Singer Model 27 from 1909. While she’s over 115 years old, she still carries the striking "Sphinx" (or Memphis) decals that were the height of fashion during the "Egyptomania" craze of the early 20th century.
A Cultural Icon in the Home
• The Dawn of Egyptomania: In 1909, the world was captivated by archaeological discoveries in the Nile Valley. Singer leaned into this "exotic" trend, transforming a functional household tool into a decorative piece of furniture that signaled a family was modern and globally aware.
• Symbols of Timelessness: By decorating the machine with the Sphinx, lotus flowers, and winged scarabs, Singer subtly messaged that their engineering was as enduring and monumental as the pyramids themselves.
• The Hand-Crank Connection: This is a manual hand-crank model, which offers incredible precision and means I can sew anywhere—no electricity required! It represents a time of true self-sufficiency and "scrappy" resilience, where tools were built to be maintained by their owners for a lifetime.
• A Heritage Workhorse: As a "vibrating shuttle" machine, it uses a rugged, long, boat-shaped bobbin system. It was the reliable choice for households that needed to sew everything from delicate lace to heavy canvas.
This machine is more than just a tool; it’s a functional work of art that bridges the gap between historical garment construction and the timeless skills of heritage cooking and crafting. I can't wait to get her stitching!

INTELLIGENCE BRIEFING: PROJECT UMAMI (1877)

SUBJECT: WORCESTER SAUCE (DOMESTIC RECONSTRUCTION)

FILE NO: 005

SECURITY CLEARANCE: SCRAPPY REBEL LEVEL 7 (LONG-TERM FERMENTATION)

Intelligence has intercepted a blueprint for "Worcester Sauce" from the 1877 manual: The Home Cook Book, compiled by the ladies of Toronto and chief cities of Canada. Analysis of this asset reveals a strategy for Domestic Self-Reliance. By reconstructing this elite-tier condiment in the Rebel kitchen, we bypass the industrial global supply chain and reclaim a complex chemical profile using raw botanical and marine ingredients.

[HISTORICAL DATA POINTS]

1877 Deployment: During this era, Worcester sauce was a high-value trade commodity. This recipe represents the Canadian push for household sovereignty—proving that a "Scrappy Rebel" doesn't need to import flavor when they can manufacture it locally.

The Anchovy Variable: The use of "five anchovies bruised fine" provides the essential glutamic acid required for the "Umami" signature. This is a classic maritime preservation tactic.

[OPERATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS]

Primary Payload: 1 oz Cayenne Pepper, 1 qt Vinegar, 2 tbsp Soy.

Botanical Additives: 3 cloves Garlic (pounded), 3 cloves Shalots (pounded).

Structural Integration: The whole must be well mixed and "rubbed through a sieve" to ensure a smooth liquid suspension.

Incubation Protocol: The asset must be corked and kept for ten days to allow for molecular marriage and fermentation.

[FIELD NOTES: CURRENT STATUS]
WARNING: This protocol is currently on the radar but has not yet undergone live field-testing. The high cayenne ratio suggests a significantly more "aggressive" heat profile than modern, sugar-heavy commercial variants. The Rebel kitchen will soon initiate a trial run to confirm flavor viability.

[REBEL INTELLIGENCE FACT]
In 1877, making your own Worcester sauce wasn't just about saving money—it was about quality control. Industrial versions often used "stale" ingredients, whereas the Toronto Ladies’ protocol ensures every "bruised" anchovy and "pounded" garlic clove is fresh and potent.
