Our Story
All Fired Up! Formerly branded as The World Rocks! is owned by Cindy Verheul. She creates funky, unique jewelry from gems, semi-precious stones, beads, metal clay, polymer clay and tribal silver found while exploring the world. Having started with firing metal clay in a kiln and forging silver with a torch, Cindy discovered that you can fire glass into the Silver Clay. This sparked (hah good pun!) experiments with fused glass. Three kilns later, All Fire Up has evolved into a firing, baking, torching design studio. Cindy came to the realization that everything she creates has been forged by fire or heat and she is All Fired Up about it.
It all started with the stones in the Afghani shops at the Grand Bazar in Istanbul. The stories of how the Afghanis made it to Turkey (they walked!) sealed her fate. She now sees these stories in stones and beads from all over the world; Nepal, Tibet, Oman, Yemen, Venice…Her beautiful stones come from hard work and harsh places. “I can see how hard these people work to make a life for themselves and their families. I can’t help but support them by buying their beautiful wares and I love the sight and feel of the stones.” In addition to the “Rocks!”, Cindy has earned the distinction of Art Clay Instructor. Art Clay is a brand of Metal Clay which has an instructor accreditation program. What is Art Clay? You won’t believe it. Art Clay is a type of modeling clay made up of pure silver, recycled from old film and x-rays, and a binding agent. Any shape imaginable can be formed. It is then kiln fired, the binder burned off and the finished product is .999 silver! This is a higher silver content than sterling. It feels like magic! After living, creating and learning in Canberra from 2013 to 2018 Cindy completed the Contemporary Clay Instructor Level 1 Artisan course through Metal Clay Australia! https://www.facebook.com/MetalClayAustralia/?fref=ts We're pretty excited about that.
Fast forward to Spring 2019 - We have moved home to Canada! Cindy is re-launching, West Coast Style this time - While living on a small, boat-access-only island, she discovered that looking after the environment is close to home. It’s natural, it has to be done and it can be done in a fabulously artistic way. Enter Cindy’s Mudge Island Recycling Project - Cindy and All Fired Up use recycled glass of all kinds, bottles, windows, smashed patio tables, you name it to add products that compliment the jewelry and product designs.
