Sasky for life Welcome to SpinHeartSpin! As you follow this page, you'll be on this journey with me.

After learning about the existence of handspun yarn on the internet sparked a love and passion for creating unique and beautiful things out of wool and fibre, I unwittingly started on a journey into a soft and warm rabbit hole. Since initially teaching myself to spin yarn from scratch through videos online in 2008, I've:

• completed the Master Spinner Program at Olds College in 2017,

• went on

to teach the program,

• have been the recipient of grant funding through SKArts, Sask Lotteries, and Creative Saskatchewan, enabling me to work within schools and communities in the northwest corner of the province,

• and am currently delivering fine craft classes through USask Community Arts and Artisanship program. My personal art practice is ever evolving, though it seems my feet are firmly planted in the realm of fibre arts. Yarn, felt, fibre blending, dyeing, embroidery, maybe some weaving here or there, and really anything else I could possibly imagine to do with fibre or items made of fibre..... That's the stuff dreams are made of. Sharing in the experience of creating with our hands brings me joy. I hope it does the same for you! Always Happily Spinning,

~Kara

This show opens so soon! My mom and I created cloth from stinging nettles harvested from my sisters backyard. It is included in this show.

We are thrilled to share that our next SCC Gallery exhibition is Prairie Fibre – Full Circles, a textile exhibition featuring work by over 25 Saskatchewan fibre artists! The show was organized by artist Jude Haraldson through prairiefibreshed, an organization that promotes circular textile processes within our province, with support from Saskatoon Spinners and Weavers Guild. All works in the show were made by local craftspeople, using natural fibre materials grown and processed in Saskatchewan. The result is a truly local, sustainable, and quintessentially Saskatchewan collection of textile art.

However, there are still three days left to view Guilty Pleasures in SCC Gallery! We are open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week from 11 am to 5 pm. Then we will be closed most of next week for show change, and this new exhibition will open on Saturday, January 24th. Stay tuned for details about free weekly demonstrations on Saturdays (weaving, spinning, felting, and more)!

Have you gotten your winter issue of PLY Magazine yet? This issue is all about Long Draw. It’s packed full of long draw information, including my experiment on the loftiness achieved when using this spinning technique. I get into using measurements of grist and how they can be an indication of loft.
There are many amazing authors and spinning experts in every issue, and I’m proud to be a part of it!

Open tomorrow (Sunday) at 11am! See you then!
