If you haven’t had a chance yet, there is still time to visit the memorial exhibit celebrating the life and work of the late Debbi Fitzgerald, a talented artist, dedicated member of ArtWorks East, and former board member whose contributions helped shape our organization and community. 🎨❤️

Debbi’s artwork is currently on display at the Cast Away Cafe until mid-June, and we encourage everyone to stop by, take in her beautiful work, and reflect on the lasting impact she had on those around her. 🖼️✨

While you’re visiting, be sure to check out some of the wonderful creations from other ArtWorks East members as well, including illustrated coloring books by Patty Mac and handcrafted rope baskets and dog toys by Christine Bray, all available at the Cast Away Cafe.

Supporting local artists helps keep creativity thriving in our communities, and we’re grateful to have this opportunity to celebrate Debbi’s artistic legacy alongside the work of our talented members. 💙

Welcome June with ArtWorks East: Creativity, Connection & Summer Ahead 🎨☀️

This month, we’re looking back on a busy and creative May filled with workshops, exhibitions, community partnerships, and artistic exploration across Guysborough County.

From long-term care programming in Milford Haven, Seaside Manor, and Sherbrooke to workshops led by our members throughout the region, creativity continued to bring people together in meaningful ways. We also wrapped up another successful season of GOALS art classes, celebrated the work of the late Debbi Fitzgerald through a featured exhibit, and highlighted member achievements, including Lee Leonard’s feature in the Halifax Guardian and the launch of Cairista MacIsaac’s new website and upcoming Wellness Wall Project.

You’ll also find a special tribute celebrating Jack and Lee’s 50 years of marriage, along with upcoming workshop opportunities, festival highlights, and details about the return of the ArtWorks East Summer Gallery and our Second Annual Summer Gallery Opening Reception on June 26.

💕 Art continues to connect, inspire, and strengthen our communities, and we’re excited to share what’s next.

Summer Gallery Sneak Peek 🎨☀️

Just one look at this beautiful piece by local artist Joy Weir, and it’s easy to start longing for those warm summer days by the water.

With its vibrant colours, gentle movement, and carefree beachside scene, this painting captures the feeling of summer perfectly. You can almost hear the waves, feel the cool water around your ankles, and remember the simple joy of a day spent at the shore with family and friends. 🌊

This is just one of the many works that will be featured in our Summer Gallery.

📅 Dates and times to be announced soon.

Stay tuned as we prepare to celebrate another season of local art, creativity, and community. We can’t wait to share this year’s collection with you! 💕

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada. It is a time to learn about, celebrate, and recognize the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonization and consider how we can all contribute to reconciliation.

At ArtWorks East, we acknowledge that we live and work in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People, and we honour the Indigenous artists, storytellers, and knowledge keepers who continue to enrich our communities. 🪶❤️
