📚 Barrister’s Bookcases 📚
🔶 Created in the 19th century, barristers had to travel to different courtrooms and bring along reference books so that is how we got barristers bookcases! They were known to be portable as they came apart in pieces and were built very well. These three cases are all antique and could even be from the late 19th century, therefore please keep in mind these all have normal antique wear & tear but I will mark anything of note below. Interestingly enough all of these cases are interchangeable with one another, in the first picture I had them all mixed up and I didn’t realize because that’s how I got them!
🔶 (SOLD) Left case, $675 taxes in: Made by Macey, this set comes apart in 5 pieces and is on feet making it a bit taller. You can arrange the shelves as you like. One of the feet comes out when transporting but slides back in to the bottom and once you have everything on top it’s very solid. I do find this one a bit uneven and you might need to prop up a corner by a few centimetres if you wanted it perfectly level but it’s very sturdy and will not tip as is. The outside is in great shape, the bottom shelf has some wear and a couple pieces of adhesive as shown. 34x12x48.5
🔶 Middle case, $575 taxes in: Made by the Macey company, no feet so it sits on the floor flat in the front but the bottom piece is actually hollow in the back. Comes apart in 5 pieces, mother of pearl on the k***s and it’s a lower price because of the large water? stain on top. 34x12.5x47
🔶 (SOLD) Right case, $675 taxes in: Made by Prestonia this set comes apart in 5 pieces and is on feet making it a bit taller. You can arrange the shelves as you like, they are numbered 908, 910 and 912 making me think there were once a couple more shelves. One mark at the very top of the piece as shown and a faint water ring mark. 34x12.5x48.5

🧠 Yesterday was world mental health day and in all honesty I’ve been struggling a bit. I think it’s important to talk about it so others know they aren’t alone. I definitely was feeling/am feeling burnt out between my challenging start to the school year and class itself, doing two markets and then trying to keep up with life in general. I’ve been sick twice, my voice is currently hoarse and I’ve cried three times this past week. It’s a blessing that it’s a 3 day weekend because I’ve been able to catch up on some (lots of) sleep, and kind of reset but for the foreseeable future I’m just going to focus on posting on here when I have the time/energy & my booth Halifax Vintage Collab and I would love your continued support ❤️ I’ve been collecting Christmas decor all year round thinking I would do the Curio Vintage Christmas show but I know that that is not a smart idea for my mental health after doing the Fall show. Sometimes the right decisions are the hardest ones, so my Christmas decor will be out at my booth at the Collab sometime November and I’ll do some posts/story sales too! Anyways there’s my brain dump, I look forward to all the exciting things coming up like a very special wedding, my birthday, spending time with my nephews, friends & family. Happy thanksgiving - especially if you made it this far! 💖 Take care of yourselves when you can.

🧡 Monarch Info 🧡
🔶 I posted a couple videos on my story that got lots of interest so I thought I’d share the information in a post! This page is called Monarch Vintage 58 because my mom started learning for and caring about monarch butterflies when I was growing up and she was born in 1958 passing away in 2019 and MV58 was born some months later.
🔶 I am hesitant to say she “raised” monarchs as I don’t really want to encourage folks to bring in monarch caterpillars or butterflies. Some studies have shown that when you mess with them in any way including bringing them inside it can confuse them and they might not live as long or be able to migrate so please read carefully!
🔶 The one thing everyone can and should do is PLANT MILKWEED! This is the ONLY plant that monarchs lay their eggs on and the ONLY plant that the caterpillars can eat. There are different varieties but swamp milkweed is native to NS and I have loads of seeds if you’d like some just let me know ☺️ Please note that milkweed is toxic to other animals, mine don’t bother with it but just so you’re aware.
🔶 I NEVER touch the eggs or caterpillars or butterflies with my hands, they are only ever transferred into the enclosure on a leaf or plant. The caterpillars eat A LOT and I am serious lol they need their food (fresh milkweed leaves) replenished 1-2 times a day and they need more than you think.
🔶 My mom used to use tanks indoors and she’d bring in the caterpillars, they would go into a chrysalis and then when they’d hatch she would release them. Like I said above I don’t really think this is best practice, it would be fine to do with a couple for educational purposes in my opinion but bringing in more than that you’re risking them not making it for a variety of reasons. Liam built me this enclosure from wood and screen like you’d use on a screen door! It’s worked great, just cleaning up all the caterpillar p**p can again be a lot - it’s more than you think.
