WE ❤️ OUR ODDITIES CREW!
Long before the doors open and the first attendee walks in, there’s an entire crew already making the strange happen.
Our Oddities Crew is made up of organizers, staff and volunteers — an amazing, funny, hardworking bunch of people who do the jobs most attendees never see.
They literally start by drawing the show floor plan in chalk on the cement arena floor, mapping out where every vendor will go. Then come the tables. And the chairs. And the barricades. And the signs. And the vendor check-in. And the hundred other things that somehow have to be in exactly the right place before anyone arrives.
There’s the set-up crew hauling and positioning hundreds of tables and chairs. The front-door crew processing thousands of people. The people keeping vendor move-in organized before sunrise. The crew watching hallways and exits. The amazing behind-the-scenes staff at the Halifax Exhibition Centre. Our incognito security team dressed in streetwear — quietly keeping an eye on things while most attendees never even realize they’re there. And, when everyone else is heading home with their treasures, there are still Crew members stacking tables, collecting chairs and sweeping the arena floor.
Some members of this team put in a 12-hour day on Friday during set-up… then turn around and are back before dawn on show day, working from 6am until 9pm.
That’s a LOT of hours devoted to making one wonderfully weird day happen.
And they do it with humour, patience, sore feet, problem-solving, teamwork and an extraordinary amount of goodwill.
The Halifax Oddities & Curiosities Show simply could not happen without them.
To every organizer, staff member, volunteer, venue staffer, security person, door person, table-hauler, chair-stacker, sign-hanger, floor-sweeper and behind-the-scenes problem solver: THANK YOU!
