PARAGON
FINE BONE CHINA
[ Royal Coat of Arms ]
BY APPOINTMENT
CHINA MANUFACTURER TO
H.M. QUEEN ELIZABETH
THE QUEEN MOTHER
MADE IN ENGLAND
Meaning & Date
"By Appointment to H.M. Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother"
This is a Royal Warrant. Paragon was an official china supplier to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother - the mother of Queen Elizabeth II.
Date Range: 1952 - 1961
- 1952: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother received her title after King George VI passed away, so this stamp could only be used from 1952 onward.
- 1961: Paragon was bought by Royal Albert. After that, the backstamp usually included "by Royal Albert".
- Since this plate does not say "Royal Albert", it’s most likely 1952-1961. This is considered the golden era of Paragon.
Conclusion
Your plate is:
Paragon Fine Bone China - Chrysanthemum Pattern
Made in England, circa 1952-1960
This is first-generation vintage Paragon, before the Royal Albert merger. The bone china is very fine, translucent, and the 22k gold trim is thick and lustrous. In collector terms, this is one of the most desirable Paragon patterns and eras.
