This is how every Wander Tote starts. 🤎

One hide, a whole lot of leather, and Sean wondering why we designed such a giant bag. 😂

Sometimes a custom request pushes us just outside our usual box and those are often the projects we end up loving most. 👊

A different shape. Different mounting points. Our new favourite black pebbled calf leather. And a finished f***y pack we were VERY tempted to keep for ourselves.

What do you think? Should we make more? 👀

TOOL TIP TUESDAY: Why does leather have wrinkles?

See those lines running through the hide? They’re not damage or defects. They’re part of the leather!

Leather was once skin, so just like our skin, it can have wrinkles, stretch marks, scars and variations in texture. You’ll often see more wrinkling around areas of the hide that moved and stretched during the animal’s life - think neck, shoulders, belly.

Depending on the leather and the project, we might cut around these areas or intentionally include them. Those natural variations are one of the things that make genuine leather so unique.

No two hides are exactly the same and we think that’s part of the beauty of working with leather. 🐄

🪡 TOOL TIP TUESDAY: Harness vs. Glovers Needles

They might look pretty similar at first glance, but that tiny difference at the tip completely changes how they’re used.

Harness needles have a blunt, rounded tip. They’re designed to follow holes you’ve already punched in the leather — making them our go-to for traditional saddle stitching.

Glovers needles have a sharp, triangular cutting point. They actually pierce the leather as you stitch, making them handy for softer, thinner leathers like deer or moose when you don’t want to pre-punch your holes.

Quick rule of thumb:

👉 Pre-punched holes? Harness needle.
👉 Need the needle to make its own way through soft leather? Glovers needle.

Small difference. Very different job.
