SHORT TRUE STORY: The other morning when I came outside with my cofffee to sit and watch the Tree swallows, who had newly hatched babies in their nest, I noticed they were frantic and yelling. I looked up and OMG something got in the nest and pulled everything out. I got up on the ladder and opened the house to look for the babies. Two were missing and two were dead. I was heart broken along with mom and dad. Two days later when the pair now abandoned the house, I took it down, cleaned it out and came up with a plan to make the opening better and re-mount it higher up. While I was doing that, the pair came back flying around looking for their home. I then quickly put it back up a little higher, but not as planned. I also hung a purple martin gourd up, which they could also use. As of yesterday we had some exciting sounds from the pair excited to be able to enter their house again. The pair was back and rebuilding in their original house. This pair has been coming here the last 3 years. Tree swallows will nest in the same house every year. These guys never fly away when they see or hear us. Below are the pics of what happened. I am happy to say they are back, but I doubt they will lay more eggs but I will be hoping they do.
