This. This post right here. Thank you to everyone who supports not just Generations, but small businesses in general 🫶
Let’s talk about the flower industry for a moment.
Flowers are beautiful. The business behind them isn’t always quite as pretty.
What many people don’t realize is that fresh flowers are one of the most perishable products you can purchase. They’re grown, harvested, packaged, shipped, transported, processed, cared for, designed, and eventually placed into someone’s hands. And through every step, the clock is ticking.
Unlike many retail products, flowers don’t sit on a shelf waiting indefinitely for someone to buy them. They require constant attention, proper storage, fresh water, and a whole lot of behind-the-scenes work.
And sometimes, despite doing everything right, flowers simply don’t cooperate.
There’s also something we wish more people understood: When you purchase flowers from an independent florist, you’re purchasing far more than flowers.
You’re paying for someone’s knowledge of what will last, what works together, what’s in season, and how to create something meaningful. You’re supporting the hours spent sourcing, preparing, designing, cleaning, maintaining, and caring for a product that has a very short life.
You’re also supporting a business that takes on the financial risk of purchasing flowers that may never sell.
We’re not sharing this because we want sympathy. We genuinely love what we do.
We’re sharing it because we believe there’s value in understanding the work behind the beauty.
At Regent Floral & Mercantile, we’re a small team doing our best to create something extraordinary with a product that is, by its very nature, temporary.
And perhaps that’s what makes flowers so special in the first place.
They’re not meant to last forever. They’re meant to make a moment matter.
Thank you for supporting independent florists and the people behind the flowers. 🦁
