"The North American River Otter"....is Algonquin's largest, most playful and curious member of the weasel family, weighing up to 33lbs! They thrive best in wetlands abundant with fish, crabs and frogs! They are highly intelligent, energetic and fun to watch if you catch them sliding and swimming along the Algonquin Park's waterways!

"Pine Marten"
One of the most charming residents of the Algonquin Park forests is our American Pine Marten! They build dens inside empty tree hollows and feed on small mammals like chipmunks and rabbits including insects and berries. The life span of American Martens is 12–17 years and they are reproductively mature at 15–24 months of age. They are also polygynous, meaning they have multiple mates. Their breeding season is during the summer, and females give birth to between one and five kits.

"Our Red Squirrel"

The American Red Squirrel is a small, feisty and highly vocal rodent active year-round in Algonquin Provincial Park. We know them for their rusty-red fur, white underbelly and bushy tails! Many people over time are able to train them to take food from their hand? Red Squirrels are essential to our ecosystem....they act as seed dispersers and they are a good food source for hawks, owls and wolves!

"A BISON PORTRAIT”

The male Bison can grow to be over 6 feet tall and 11 feet long with the female (cow) being slightly smaller. They can run faster than horses with a lifespan of about 25 years! For thousands of years, Native Americans - particularly those Tribes that wandered the Plains depended on the Bison (Buffalo) for survival. They depended on them for food, clothing, shelter and tools. This deep, respectful relationship was central to their culture, with the Bison considered a sacred relative.

"OUR CANADIAN BEAVER" 🇨🇦
Happy 50th Anniversary to Beavers! On March 24, 1975, the Beaver became an official symbol of Canadian sovereignty when the Official Symbol of Canada Act received royal assent. The 2012 Canadian 5 cent coin (aka nickel) features the image of a Beaver sitting atop a log, a design originally created by George Kruger Gray.
