Today, I had the pleasure of submitting this arrangement to the Friends of the Garden flower show. I promised myself this year to do more things that scare me (including water slides with my kids!) and this time I was rewarded with first place in my class. I loved putting this arrangement together so much, and the evening light in my studio is a delight to photograph in. Also, my eldest (who has an incredible design eye and helped with the final touches) gave me an enthusiastic go-ahead on this design. Honestly, it’s almost worth having a second wedding to celebrate with flowers like this 😂

I’m trying Barb Merchant | Windfall Zinnia Seeds zinnias this year, and these gorgeous full blooms have just started really filling out. Gorgeous! They’ll be in mason jar arrangements at the flower stand, and also going into September subscriptions alongside dahlias and roses.

I’m already looking towards expanding the dahlia beds next year. With luck and some planning, I’ll do a better job of overwintering my tubers than I have in the past. Last year they mostly froze in the snow that for some reason, I wasn’t expecting. Will I learn from that mistake? Maybe.
