I decided to work on the embellishment a bit more from the last photo I posted a few days ago. I’m much happier with it.

Had a nice small bowl that unfortunately had some checking on the one side. I didn’t want to toss the bowl so I tried to use the piece as an experiment and I used my micromotor with a spear point bit and used a random organic pattern. I’m mostly happy with it…. Maybe would look better if I was able to follow the grain.

Playing around with the micro motor. It’s our challenge for the next Woodturning meeting, try an embellishment on a bowl. So I wanted to do something that had an aggressive amount of carving involved. Not a complicated design but very bold. I’m about 1/2 done with the micromotor and then I’m thinking of torching the deep grooves…. And I’ll leave the inside of the bowl natural…. a contrast to the very course and charred outside.

Jupiter juniper. I’ve had the solar system on my brain lately. This is a 7” sphere turned from juniper. I have to say that the smell of juniper is nice in small doses, not so much when you turn and sand a large ball for over an hour in a tiny workshop… phew….

Our local Woodturning group did a collaborative swap back in January. This is what I was able to create from the piece I was given. See the last 2 photos. Rules for the exchange are, it must be a piece you started working on and it’s been sitting unfinished for a few years. The person you give your piece to has complete artistic licence it what it will become. And once the work has been completed, the piece must be returned to the original owner. The idea is to be as creative as possible to try methods of making that you normally would not try. I’ve had a great time with this one and I’m please with the result.

My sister asked me to resize these corks for some pottery containers she made. Fairly easy task on a difficult material to work with. Sharp tools and light cuts.

Turned a sphere from a blank of Alumalite with a pine cone inside. A fellow in my local turning group handed out a bunch of the blanks and I grabbed 3. First time I’ve ever turned resin. I can honestly say I will keep my usage of resin to a bare minimum. I still need to spend a touch more time polishing it up.
