The difference between antique shopping and regular shopping?

Nobody ever says, ‘They have 50 more just like it in the warehouse.

Things I’ve learned from buying antiques in Europe:

If the road looks too narrow for your van, the GPS still wants you to take it.

Just around the corner’ means something different over there.

The best pieces are always on the third floor.

And somehow, it’s always worth it.

Every piece in this collection was hand-picked.

Not from a catalogue. Not from a wholesaler.

From villages, family homes, and hidden corners of Portugal.

Again and again, I heard stories of grandmothers, generations, and family history.

These aren’t just antiques.

They’re stories waiting for their next chapter.

Every piece has a story
and apparently so does the journey to find it.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve navigated impossibly narrow roads, parked on sidewalks, squeezed furniture into tiny elevators, encountered unexpected roadblocks, and even dealt with a broken-down van along the way. And that’s only part of the adventure.

The hunt for beautiful European antiques isn’t always glamorous, but discovering unique pieces with history and character makes every detour worth it.

Portugal, you’ve certainly kept things interesting.

A Day in Portugal đŸ‡”đŸ‡č

Today was one of those days that reminds me why I started this journey.

I spent the day wandering through an antique store that seemed to go on forever. Room after room filled with beautiful furniture, vintage treasures, handcrafted details, and pieces with more character than anything you’ll find in a big box store.

The kind of place where you walk in thinking you’ll be there for 15 minutes and suddenly hours have passed.

Every corner held another piece I wanted to bring home.

Honestly, if I could have fit the entire store into my container, I probably would have.

For now, I’m carefully choosing the pieces that speak to me most and imagining the homes they’ll find in Canada.

Some days are about buying.

Some days are about being inspired.

The Hunt đŸ‡”đŸ‡č

Not every stop leads to a purchase.

Some days are spent wandering through antique shops, exploring old villages, peeking into tile stores, and following a hunch down a road I’ve never traveled before.

The best finds aren’t always the ones you’re looking for.

Sometimes they’re the ones you never expected to discover.

This is my favorite part of the journey.

Why Portugal?

Because some of my favorite things aren’t things at all.

They’re stories.

The story of an old cabinet that’s been in the same family for generations.

The story of a craftsman who built furniture to last.

The story of a country that still values quality, character, and tradition.

Portugal gave me more than beautiful furniture.

It reminded me why I fell in love with antiques in the first place.

Now I’m bringing a few of those stories home with me.
