Broken foot day 4. First day making my own coffee. Going forward and backward with the scooter to get in the right position reminds me of parallel parking. Sometimes I just lift the darn thing and shove it into place because I lose patience (this is especially true when I need to go to the bathroom - note to self: don't wait till the last minute).
Leaving the house is a challenge because we have outdoor stairs and needs to carry my scooter down. It's doable. I'm forever thankful to him for his care. We went to the studio yesterday to take care of some work in progress. The Kamou mugs pictured had dried and needed some final finishing before the bisque firing. I set up on a stool beside my shelf and propped my foot in a storage box and was good to go. Arjun helped me move the board of French butter dishes so I could wrap them up in plastic to keep them damp enough to trim. Getting into the studio building poses a problem. I can't get into the main entrance due to stairs so I have to go up to St-Viateur to access the ramp. It's tiring to get all the way there, though I figure I'll get used to it. The fact that de Gaspé is a wind tunnel makes it all unpleasant but whatcha gonna do. Tomorrow is sure to be full of adventures. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get some forearm crutches, which should be easier to use. I'm also going to have to figure out how to carry my crutches and ride my scooter. This was what I jigged up today but I wasn't certain it was safe. What do you think?

So this happened. I tripped, fell and fractured my metatarsal. I can't walk on my foot for 4-6 weeks. I got great, fast care at the JGH ER so that was a pleasant surprise. I got a knee scooter/walker and it's a game changer. I'm adapting to this new reality and I'm trying to stay positive. I'm building up new muscles! I have no choice but to continue teaching my classes and making work and am hoping those around me will accommodate that. Life happens. I'm just going to roll with it.

I wanted to follow up on my last post with the closed form transformed into a lidded jar but that piece is a bit too wet to finish. Here's a smaller one I did just before that one. It's sweet and will look fantastic covered in my moody blue glaze.

One of the cool things about closed forms is that they fill with air that resists pressure. That allows you to shape them as you like. With this piece I pressed in the clay below the shoulder and created a fl**ge. After that I made a hole in it to release the air. I'll post some followup pics so you can see the transformation.

While glazing a batch of Moody Blue butter dishes today I realized that I'm an ambidextrous glazer. I should specify...as I leave an unglazed section of my pieces, I pour glaze in the piece with one hand, then empty it and dip the outside in a glaze bath with the other hand. I noticed that I was automatically doing the more precise moves with my left hand rather than my right (I'm a righty) and had to really focus to use my dominant hand. Strange.
