🧶 Feature Artist Friday — Denise of Green Hedge Creations

This week we're featuring Denise, the other half of Green Hedge Creations, whose charming crocheted keychains and plants you'll find in the shop!

Denise has always loved crafting, and began her crochet journey in 2019 after picking up a set of crochet hooks left to her by her mom. She taught herself the skill stitch by stitch, practising regularly, with her family the first to enjoy — and encourage — her handiwork. Several years later, creating keychains and plants in the amigurumi style, each with a sweet smiling face, has become one of her favourite pastimes. She's always trying new styles and has developed many of her own amigurumi patterns. The love of crafting she inherited, along with those crochet hooks, shines through in everything she makes.

🎃 Pinch Pot Pumpkins Pottery Workshop — Thursday, September 17th

We're so excited to welcome you for a cozy, hands-on pottery workshop to celebrate the season, led by Nicole Gamble!

In this fun, beginner-friendly class you'll create a set of three miniature pinch-pot pumpkins — perfect for autumn décor or gifting. Nicole will guide you step-by-step through forming a pinch pot, sealing two together into a hollow sphere, and shaping it into a charming pumpkin, before adding stems and delicate vines and painting your creations with colourful underglazes.

No experience necessary, all materials are included. Finished pieces will be glazed, fired, and ready for pick-up 2–3 weeks after the class.

🪵 Feature Artist Friday — Shawn of Green Hedge Creations

This week we're shining a light on Shawn, one half of Green Hedge Creations, whose beautiful wood-turned bowls and mixed media sculptures you'll find in the shop.

Shawn got his first taste of woodturning in Grade 7 shop class and returned to the craft as an adult. Many of his pieces are "twice turned" — after rough-turning a chunk of log, he sets it aside to dry and "do what wood does" for at least a year before turning it a second time to refine its final shape. After sanding, each piece is finished with a food-safe hard wax oil. As Shawn likes to say, the wood tells him what it wants to be, so the design can change right on the lathe if the wood has other ideas!

Now residing on 26 acres of woods, he's never short on material. When he's not turning, Shawn creates 3D mixed media sculptures from found rock, metal, and wood, each one inspired by the natural world.
